How Jill Scott Proved People Wrong by Welcoming Her Son Jett after Being Told She Couldn't Have Kids
Jill Scott never expected to be a mother in the years before she welcomed her first child. Get a glimpse into the soul singer's journey to motherhood.
Jill Scott is the proud mother to her only son Jett Hamilton Roberts. He recently turned 11 in April. In a touching tribute to him, she gushed:
"He teaches me, challenges, calms, and lifts me too. Definitely a dope human being. So grateful to help on his journey."
Jill's journey to motherhood seemed like an impossibility for most of her life. According to Daily Mail, she struggled to conceive during her first marriage to Lyzel Williams from 2001 to 2007.
In an interview with The Mirror, Jill revealed that she had a medical condition and doctors told her that she couldn't have children.
Jill explained to The Mirror that she spent most of her 20s not having her period. After several unsuccessful attempts by doctors to start her cycle, they suggested a hysterectomy.
The singer said her doctors feared that without a hysterectomy, she could develop cervical cancer later in life. She chose not to have the operation and said she was glad that she didn't go through with the procedure.
Shortly after welcoming Jett with drummer, Lil John Roberts, Jill, told PEOPLE that they had split. She shared with the magazine that despite their break-up, she and Lil John were committed to co-parenting their son.
While speaking candidly about the breakup, she said, "when you have a baby you're dealing with a lot of emotions and I don't know how much of it had to do with us breaking up, but it happens."
