The "42" star was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and it progressed to stage IV cancer before 2020. He kept his diagnosis private and never spoke publicly about his cancer battle.

Following Boseman's sudden death, his family released an official statement through the actor's official Instagram page confirming the sad news.

In the statement, the family described Boseman as a "true fighter" and revealed that he had shot some of his well-known movies, including "Marshall" and "Da 5 Bloods," while undergoing multiple surgeries and chemotherapy.

Meanwhile, Boseman, who is best known for bringing the MCU superhero Black Panther to life, was last spotted publicly with his wife, Ledward, in February, during the 2020 NBA All-Star Game in Chicago.

The "Black Panther" star reportedly proposed during a date in Malibu, California.

The media first got wind of their romance when they were spotted together in 2015, shortly after Ledward graduated from Cal Polytechnic University Pomona. There, she majored in music industry studies and was the school's Jazz band's lead singer.

Boseman was notoriously private in his romantic life, but the couple did make several public appearances at Hollywood events and some NBA games. One of the most memorable moments caught on camera between the two was at the NAACP Image Awards in March 2019.
