Niecy Nash Says Her Marriage to Jessica Betts Was a Way of Finding Herself & Not Coming Out

Niecy Nash spoke about her surprise wedding with Jessica Betts less than a year after she divorced her husband of eight years, Jay Tucker: “I was not suppressing my sexuality my whole life.”

Many were surprised when Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts posted about their intimate wedding ceremony on August 29, a few months after the “Claws” star divorced Jay Tucker.

According to the actress, she married Betts for her “beautiful soul” which she saw past the usual gender standards in marriage. However, her fans remained shocked at the sudden turn of events.

NASH OPENS UP

The comedian who was twice married to two men she loved said she was not repressing her identity in the past. She married those she loved and did the same thing marrying the musician. She added:

“I don’t feel like my marriage is my coming out of anywhere, but rather going into myself and being honest about who I love, and I’m not limiting myself on what that love is supposed to look like.”

Nash admitted that she loved the 41-year-old singer-songwriter before developing romantic feelings because of Betts’ unique personality and perspective on many things in life.

MEETING BETTS

The couple first crossed paths through social media in 2015 when Nash was happy in the arms of her ex-husband, Tucker. Back then, the actress did not see Betts as anything more than a friend.

The former husband and wife also lived in two different cities during tapings which was a factor that affected their relationship.

Nash and Tucker called it quits in October 2019 and amicably divorced a few months later. Since then, something changed in the actress that made her fall in love with her now-wife.

MARRYING BETTS

On August 31, 2020, the newlywed couple announced that they had tied the knot on social media. Their ceremony took place in Ventura County, California, with the presence of 24 people.

The two mended hearts in a rustic-themed event planned by William P. Miller and had delicious meals prepared by Chef Will Jones. The couple also had custom face masks and personalized hand sanitizers as part of their giveaways.

Both Nash and Betts proposed to each other in a modern way. Before marrying Tucker, the Emmy Award nominee was married to Don Nash whom she divorced in 2007 after 13 years of marriage.

NASH’S DIVORCE

Neither Nash nor Tucker revealed the reason behind their separation. However, it was reportedly due to her on-screen sex scenes that brought discomfort in the relationship.

The former husband and wife also lived in two different cities during tapings, which was a factor that affected their relationship. Despite being divorced, Nash and Tucker remain good friends and continue to love each other differently.

The “City of Angels” actress married Tucker in 2011 and has been a power couple in the entertainment industry in the past years. Although they don’t have children of their own, Nash has three kids from her previous relationship, Dominic, Donielle, and Dia.
