Man Does Not Want to Take Responsibility for His Ex-wife's Child

A man took to a popular online forum to share his problem with his ex-wife, who wanted him to bond with her son. But he doesn't think it was fair, so he sought other people's opinions.

Writing on Reddit, the man explained that when he and his ex-wife were still dating, he made it clear that he did not want to become a father. At the time, she told him that she felt the same way.

However, a year after they tied the knot, she said she started having second thoughts and that she did want to be a mother after all. This led to a misunderstanding between them.

The Reddit user said that they had a great life together and they loved each other deeply even without a child. But his ex-wife was not content. One day, she decided to go to a fertility clinic.

She told him that since he did not want to get her pregnant, she would have a baby via IUI. If he wanted them to still be together, she added, he will need to accept the fact that he was going to be a father.

She confessed to him that she felt a little cheated after hearing about him having his own family.

But it would not work for them, the Reddit user said. No matter how she tried to convince him, he felt he was not prepared to become a father. He wrote:

"She did not want me to leave but it was the best thing to do."

Eventually, the two decided to call it quits. Although it was painful for both of them, he filed for a divorce, after only two years of marriage. Their divorce happened six years ago.

Years after their divorce, the man met a woman named Addy who would become his new wife. But he had doubts early in their relationship, again because of his conviction not to have a child.

Addy was a single mother with a two-year-old daughter. The Reddit user said he was conflicted about pursuing a relationship with her because he would become a stepfather. But they made it work.

Other users said it was indeed unfair for his ex-wife to try to put him in a situation he was not ready for when they were still married.

The man's ex-wife is still in contact with his siblings, and through them, she learned that he remarried and has become a stepfather. The former couple met at a coffee shop, and there, his ex-wife showed him a photo of their now 5-year-old son.

She confessed to him that she felt a little cheated after hearing about him having his own family. If he did not have much problem with being a parent, she said, they would have still been together and raising their family.

His ex-wife asked him to bond with her son, saying that the boy legally would have been his son if he had not divorced her. But the man refused to meet with their son because he has no connection with him.

His ex-wife wanted her son to have someone to consider as his father and she was asking the Reddit user to fill in that role. But for him, it was not fair and many Reddit users agreed.
