“The Masked Singer” returned for its 4th season on Wednesday, September 23, and has already evicted the first contestant. The season premiere saw the introduction of the first six singers out of the 16 contestants, who were put in group A, as they performed for the judges and virtual audience.

The characters in Group A were Giraffe, Sun, Dragon, Popcorn, and Snow Owls—the first duet costume on the show. The night kicked off with an opening performance from Sun, who sang a cover of “Cuz I Love You” by Lizzo.

The night ended with Snow Owls’ emotional deliverance of “Say Something” by A Great Big World, after which the judges and audience got to voting. At the end of the day, the character Dragon came in last and was invited on stage to be unmasked by host Nick Cannon.

Before the celebrity behind the mask was revealed, the judges guessed who it would be. Ken Jeong thought it was Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps while Jenny McCarthy believed it was DMX. Judges Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger both guessed Busta Rhymes.

When Dragon finally took off the mask, it turned out to be Grammy Nominated rapper Busta Rhymes, making Scherzinger and Thicke correct. This leaves Sun, Giraffe, Popcorn, and Snow Owls, alongside the other characters from Group B and Group C—who are yet to make their debut.

According to reports, season 4 introduced the Golden Ear Trophy, which the four judges will compete for. The prize would be won by the panelist with the most correct number of guesses after seeing each character’s initial performance.

Fans may recall that after the delay due to the pandemic, "The Masked Singer" resumed production for its new season in August complying with COVID-19 precautions.

Due to the pandemic, the show's creators incorporated fan voting for the first time in the show’s history, allowing viewers at home to decide what singers stay. The show’s set up also included regular temperature takes and social distancing between the judges.
