SECRET PAIN

In April 2020, John stunned fans by sharing the news that he had been battling addiction and had now been sober for 2 years. Alongside his 12 Steps sobriety declaration, John posted a second snap of himself downing a bottle of wine. He captioned it:

"I haven’t been vocal about my sobriety on here just because I felt it was something I wanted to keep personal, but I had a change of heart today."

In the post, John went on to thank the people who surround him for their continual support and help and to encourage other young people battling an addiction to reach out for help from those around them.

John acknowledges that the current isolation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is making the struggle for sobriety even harder for many addicts and urged them to join AA meetings via ZOOM.

ROB LOWE 30 YEARS SOBER

John's famous dad faced a similar battle back in the late 80s. Rob, now 56, openly admitted that he was addicted to alcohol which he had started consuming at a very young age.

In 1990, Rob stopped drinking after a sex scandal nearly destroyed his career, and that same year he met Sheryl Berkoff, his wife, and the mother of his sons. He has now been sober for nearly 31 years.

JOHN LOWE WRITER

John has dabbled in acting, but he may be adding the title "screenwriter" to his resume. In December 2020, he shared a photo on Instagram of a script from the procedural series "911: Lone Stars" credited as the writer.

John, who studied science technology at Stanford University, has written the script for at least one episode of the Fox series, which premiered in January 2020 and stars Rob Lowe, Liv Tyler, and Ronen Rubinstein.

THE LOWE FILES

Fans had a glimpse into Rob's warm relationship with his sons John and Matthew, 27, in the A&E series "The Lowe Files." In the short-lived series, Rob and his two boys chased down mysteries and urban legends across America.

John, in particular, keeps his famous dad on his toes, as he demonstrated when he roasted Rob on live TV about his famous image as a sex symbol during an episode of Ellen DeGeneres.
