Barber credited her mother with seeing her through her darkest days. In Barber's autobiography, "Full Life: From Hollywood to Real Life and Back Again," Barber laid bare her lifetime battle with depression and anxiety.
The star went years without being diagnosed. Only when she found herself unmotivated to move or take care of her 9-month old daughter and 4-year-old son, did Barber make a distress call to her parents.
Barber confessed to still writing emails to her late mother.
Barber moved her family in with her parents desperate to sort out her mental health despite having no idea what ailed her. The star eventually found the right counselor and was officially diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder.
She previously considered her aversion to red carpets, interviews, and vomiting before "Full House" recordings as being more nervous than her co-stars. The diagnosis was a welcome relief for the actress. In her book she says:
"I needed to understand. I wanted the knowledge."
Barber's co-stars Candace Cameron Bure and Jodie Sweetin knew about the star's anxiety, even assisting her during red carpets. However, on reading Barber's book, Candace realized she was not privy to its gravity.
The actress revealed she had written her book with the hope that by highlighting her own struggles she would encourage others to share their troubles and heal as well.
Barber confessed to still writing emails to her late mother. The grief-stricken star shared that knows she will never get a response but believes her mother is reading them wherever she may be.
There is no doubt that Sherry's death has dealt a massive blow to the actress. The "Full House" star lamented that she has not yet found a way to live in her new reality without the presence of her mother.
