In a recent interview with Closer Weekly, the 78-year-old opened up about his thriving union as he looked back on his career and credited Gloria for being his rock. When asked the secret to their long marriage, Thomas answered

"I love her, and because we are in love, we never really gave up on each other. We knew that as soon as somebody said something sweet, we'd go right back."

The talented singer explained that he and Gloria deeply cherish each other, and it has been that way since the start of their relationship. The five-time Grammy Award winner also dished on their unique love story.

Thomas has sold over 70 million records.

He reminisced on how they first met, saying that he saw her in the club from across the table with a drummer friend. For Thomas, it was love at first sight as he turned to tell his friend that he would take Gloria home.

When the trio got outside, Gloria approached him and told him she'd understand if he changed his mind. She unveiled her facing, showing scars from a recent injury after going through a windshield.

That didn't dissuade Thomas from falling in love, and the lovebirds tied the knot in 1968. The couple has three wonderful daughters and four precious grandchildren whom they adore.

Born Billy Joe, the award-winning songwriter, started his career as a choir in his local church in Houston, Texas. He then joined a music group called, The Triumphs and they regularly battled with another group called The Traits.

After releasing some songs with The Triumphs, Thomas kickstarted his solo career in 1966. However, it wasn't until 1968 that he achieved worldwide fame when "Hooked On a Feeling" became a million-selling record.

His next hit, "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," put him on a pedestal after it was featured in the hit movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" and won an Oscar for Best Original Song of the year.

Thomas has sold over 70 million records and is the only singer to have mentions for the Song of the Year in the country, gospel, and pop charts. Thomas and Gloria are among few celebrity couples who have stood the test of time.

The list includes Denzel and Pauletta Washington, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Kurt Russell and Goldie Haw, Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham, Elton John and David Furnish, and Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen.
