Hudson's photo was a beautiful family snap of the actress, her partner, actor Danny Fujikawa, who sat beside her and gave her a warm side hug, and her 2-year-old daughter, Rani Rose, who sat between her and Fujikawa.
Behind three of them were Hudson's mother and brother, actress Goldie Hawn and actor Oliver Hudson. They all were happy and bright smiles as they posed for the beautiful picture.
However sweet the picture was, it did not distract people from noting that Hudson had a lot of people present despite social distancing restrictions. Twitter was soon abuzz with people criticizing the actress for flouting such essential rules in a pandemic.
Entertainment Weekly writer Dalton Ross took to Twitter with his own subtle jab at the indiscretion. He posted a screenshot of Hudson and her large party during her appearance at the award show and wrote "Social distancing."
Hudson was nominated for best actress in a motion picture musical or comedy for her performance in the 2021 musical drama "Music." Her daughter, Rani Rose, briefly stole the spotlight during her appearance with a sweet "Hi, everybody" to the camera.
Besides her brother and mother, Hudson's older children, sons Ryder, 17, and Bingham, 9, her stepfather, Kurt Russell, and many more were present.
When talking about the large family gathering, Hudson admitted that she realized she had not done anything like this in a year and a half — getting all dressed up fancy for an event.
She said that it was fun for all of them and that they were just trying to bring that feeling of celebratory giddiness despite attending from home.
Hudson virtually graced the event in a gorgeous custom-made Louis Vuitton gown with falling draped satin duchess sleeves and a bodice embroidered with sequins and glass beads.
While many feel that she could have handled the overboard family gathering at her home better, the actress did look stunning for her special night.
