Sandra Bullock is a Hollywood icon. From "Miss Congeniality" and "The Blind Slide" to the more recent "Bird Box," she has a successful acting career, but she's endured a few ups and downs in her personal life.
Sandra Annette Bullock is a name very few won't recognize. The Washington native has made it big time, but her story hasn't always been easy.
The daughter of a German opera singer, Sandra, was exposed to the language and singing from a young age. Her formative years were spent on the road, traveling through Germany and America.

She picked up vocal skills early on, and this talent would lead her to find the eventual love of her life, acting. The star chose New York to follow her dreams of a life on the screen.
A BIG AWARD AND A WORLD RECORD
After a few attempts in theatre, Sandra decided to try the film industry instead. One of her early breakout roles was "Speed." The movie's fame resulted in a sequel and an array of other big roles.

HER SECRET TO SUCCESS
Bullock has shared some of her thoughts on success and how she's kept herself on the top of her game after all these years.
Since success comes in a "very prickly package," it's up to the individual to decide what to do with it. And that is where the trick comes in, as she reportedly said:
"Choose people that challenge you and are smarter than you. Always be the student. Once you find yourself to be the teacher, you've lost it."

HER SPLIT FROM JESSE JAMES
One area Sandra hasn't been able to keep solely successful is her personal life. Many fans may know about the star's very public divorce from former husband, Jesse James.
The two first crossed paths when Sandra's godson wanted to meet him. It was his tenth birthday and the actress arranged for a meeting. Jesse and Sandra hit it off, and they tied the knot in 2005.

But then, five years later, Jesse confessed that he had been unfaithful, showing remorse for the public embarrassment and pain he caused Sandra and the kids through his actions.
Their relationship didn't survive the ordeal, and the pair went their separate ways. Jesse ended up writing a memoir titled "American Outlaw" as he worked towards a better life.
In the book, Jesse elaborated on his relationship with Sandra and his perspective on what went wrong in their marriage.

A NEW MAN IN SANDRA'S LIFE
Bryan Randall and Sandra are one of the hottest couples in Hollywood. Some of their friends are even said to have hinted at the two being married, and Bryan always sports a wedding band on that very special finger.
"Bryan won’t take off his wedding band because, in his eyes, he’s committed to the woman he loves. And he sees himself as married to Sandra,” an insider told Closer Weekly.

HER KIDS
Sandra Bullock doesn't have a particular liking for the media, especially after her public divorce. Another reason is her kids' privacy. She has two adopted kids, Laila and Louis, who she regards as her whole world.
In 2010, while her separation from Jesse was still in process, the actress adopted her first baby, Louis Bardo Bullock.
He was five years old and changed her whole world. She was now a single mother with a very busy career. But somehow she made it work!

In 2015 Sandra introduced her little girl, Laila, to the world. She explained how her family was not what she imaged it would be but that "it's better than [she] ever imagined."
Even though she's been called the most beautiful woman in the world, she says being a mother is what makes her feel truly beautiful.

WILL SANDRA ADOPT MORE KIDS
The star has been surprisingly open about her plans going forward family-wise. She even shared that she wasn't planning on expanding her family.
But she was clear to point out that she'll "never say never." While she doesn't have plans for more kids in the pipeline, it is possible.

HER KIDS HAVE VERY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES
When asked about the nature of her children, the actress gushed about her kiddos. She explained that her son and daughter are worlds apart when it comes to personality. In fact, the proud mother shared some specific traits during an interview and said:
“Lou is supersensitive. I call him my 78-year-old son. He’s like Shecky Greene, a Jewish Catskills comic. He’s wise and kind. I saw that when they handed him to me.”
The actress called her daughter Laila "a fighter," who she's sure will help bring about change in the future, and her reason for being on this earth.
