Meet Julia Roberts' Beautiful Family: Famous Husband and Three Rarely-Seen Kids
There’s no doubt that Julia Roberts and her husband, Daniel Moder, are a match made in heaven. Alas, things weren’t always this easy for the famous actress.
From becoming a mistress to admitting that "mastering this mothering thing" doesn’t exist, find out everything you need to know about this "pretty woman."
Roberts is originally from Smyrna, Georgia. She came from a family of actors. Both of her parents, Betty Lou Bredemas, her mother, and father, Walter Grady Roberts, were exemplary actors.
Her parents decided to teach their youngsters everything they needed to know about acting. After Julia was born, her mother quit her job. This affected their financial life negatively.
At the age of five, Julia's parents decided to divorce, and this made her brother, Eric, move to Atlanta with her dad. Julia's first acting gig was given to her by Eric Roberts in a movie titled "Blood Red."
She went on to play an essential role in another movie titled "Satisfaction," and things just got better from there. In 1989, Julia Roberts starred in a cult-classic film titled "Pretty Woman," by Harry Marshall - this was her big break.
LONG LIST OF HUSBANDS
Like many famous actresses, Julia Roberts has had her fair share of romantic relationships with prominent figures in the entertainment industry.
Some of them include Kiefer Sutherland, Mathew Perry, Dylan McDermott, Liam Neeson, and Jason Patric. She was engaged to Sutherland for a short while.
Then, in a drastic shock, the duo decided to break up - a mere three days before their wedding. This affected the actress and her family, but she found love again.
This time it was with Lyle Lovett. The couple decided to tie the knot on June 25, 1993. Two years later, the couple filed for divorce.
In 1998, it was confirmed that Roberts was romantically involved with Benjamin Bratt. But, in 2001, the lovers broke up. In 2000, while she was still engaged with Bratt, Roberts met Daniel Moder.
Moder was married to Vera Steinberg at the time. Moder split with his wife one year later and got married to Roberts on July 4, 2002.
This marriage was judged by many, as was Julia for her long list of ex-husbands. Despite this, the couple has three beautiful children together.
HOW THEY MET
Moder is Julia Roberts' loving husband and doting father of her three beautiful kids. Aside from being a father and husband, he is a cinematographer and operates on camera as well.
He was born in Los Angeles, and his career began in Hollywood as a production assistant and as the camera operation for "Spider-Man 3," "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," and "Point Break."
He also worked as a cinematographer for movies like "Animal Kingdom," "The Normal Heart," and "Ibiza." He met Julia Roberts in 2000 on set for a movie titled "The Mexican," and the duo became great friends until 2002, which is when they got married.
THE SURPRISE WEDDING
However, the pair only got married two years later, on July 4, after Danny broke up with his wife. Going about it unconventionally, their wedding guests had no idea they were about to attend a wedding.
Held at Julia's 82-acre ranch in Taos, New Mexico, the guests thought they were attending an Independence Day party.
That is, until Julia and Danny stepped into a circle of pink, red, and white rose petals under an arch constructed of pink and white sheaths, soon followed by a proposal from Danny.
The wedding ceremony followed soon after, and the guests danced under the stars to Bob Marley and Sade until well after 2 AM.
A NEW WOMAN
The newlyweds held their reception and a Fourth of July barbecue the next day. Just over a year later, Julia explained how being married to Danny transformed her life.
"I think it's not so much that I'm happier now than ever; it's that I'm more content. I'm in the harbor of my life; a huge part of it is my marriage. My husband, Danny, has really shined the light for me," she said.
The couple welcomed twins Phinnaeus "Finn" and Hazel in November 2004, followed by their third child and son, Henry Daniel, in June 2007.
SEEING THE WORLD
When Julia went to India to film "Eat, Pray, Love," released in 2010, the tots went along! They couldn't wait to go back after visiting the country with Danny a few months earlier:
THE DAMAGE OF GOSSIP
The actress does admit that tabloid gossip gets to her even after all these years. It has also led to some "uncomfortable" situations while standing in a grocery store line,
When a new gossip story about her life was printed on the cover of magazines, Roberts told Oprah that it "still hurt [her] feelings" because she is proud of the life she built with her husband.
JULIA AS A MOM
Raising children in a different world than what she grew up in, Julia realized she has no idea what it's like being a teenager in this day and age, but she doesn't believe that "mastering mothering" is a thing either.
With ever-changing technology and crazes, Julia admits that she's unfamiliar with half the things her children ask at times. Although she is prone to investigate things first, the kids did convince her to join Instagram in 2018.
While her children grow up without wanting anything, she does make sure they learn things early in life, like making food, do laundry, and making their beds.
"These are important life skills. They have to run their own race. They have to have their own experience," the actress explained.
ON BEING A WOMAN
During her interview with Oprah, Julia explained that women often feel that it is their responsibility to give everything of themselves and keep doing that.
However, there is great value in asking for help. No one can do absolutely everything by themselves, and what if you don't want to?
"I think, as women, we fall into this place where we feel like it’s our responsibility to give everything, give and give and give," Julia explained.
BALANCING HOME AND WORK
For most women, the early days of motherhood are challenging. However, for Roberts, her struggle was on a higher level. Not only did she have to be there for her kids, but she also had to make sure her career didn't come to an end.
It was double the work for the actress and sometimes overwhelming. Nevertheless, Roberts kept on going, learning through trial and error until she figured things out.
HER KIDS AND THE NEWS
One hurdle parents battle with frequently is how to inform their kids about everything going on in the news. For Julia, talking to her kids about the news is the best method.
She wants them to know that they have a voice that can be heard. It's important to Julia and her husband to be honest with the kids, wanting to instill independence and knowing they have a place in this world.
JULIA AND DANIEL
Just like any other living marriage that comes with its ups and downs, Daniel Moder and Julia Roberts have been through a few hiccups in their marriage. One of the main issues between the couple is their difference in careers.
A good friend of the couple once disclosed that Moder often feels like he is in his wife's shadow. It was difficult for them because she always had to go about shooting movies.
To fix this problem, the actress organized a family vacation to Fiji, where she mentioned that they were hoping to heal and resolve their issues. According to her, the location was a happy place for both of them to work things out - and we're glad they did!
Julia Roberts' life and career have evolved over the years, and in the process, she has transformed the Hollywood scene. What is your favorite Julia Roberts movie? Share your thoughts in the comments!
