According to police, a Texas woman left her phone filled with selfies at the scene after she shot a nail salon owner over the cost of service.

A woman from Katy, Texas, was accused of shooting a nail salon owner because she and her young sister were not happy about the price of the services they had both received.

The suspect, a 21-year-old woman named Joana Vara and her 20-year-old sister received a manicure and pedicure at Katy Nails on the 21900 block of the Katy Freeway located on South Mason Road.

An argument about the price of the services broke out between the owner, a 42-year-old Asian man, and the two young women. Finally, Vara paid for the service and left the store while her young sister continued to argue with the owner.

The suspect then returned to the store and began an argument with the owner again. At this point, the owner tried to push Vara out of his store. She then pulled out a handgun and shot him.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office's press release, he was transported by emergency services to Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center, where he remains critical but stable.

Another shooting occurred in 2019 at a Wauwatosa nail salon called Ly Ly Nails & Spa.

The press statement also released two photos of the woman which were found on her phone. She left her phone at the scene after she and her sister fled in a dark orange Ford Fusion.

On Thursday, June 3, 2021, Vara was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $60 000, and she was expected to appear in court on Monday.

According to the Sheriff's office, her sister was arrested for evasion but not charged with the shooting. Harris County Jail records showed she was not in custody on Monday, June 7, 2021.

There had been other nail salon shootings this year. Another happened in Columbia, South Carolina, at a salon called Rose Nails on St. Andrews Road in Richland County in January 2021.

When Richland police officers arrived at the scene on a late Friday afternoon, they found a woman with a gunshot to her upper body lying on the floor. Her injuries were treated at a hospital. Unfortunately, the suspect was not found.

Another shooting occurred in 2019 at a Wauwatosa nail salon called Ly Ly Nails & Spa after a fight broke out inside. Two women were being pampered when another woman entered the salon and started arguing with them.

A physical fight ensued, and one woman reached for her handgun. According to police, as she was trying to remove the gun from its holster, it went off and grazed the nail salon owner's toe. No charges were issued to any of the women.
