JESSICA'S OLYMPIC ACHIEVEMENT

Jessica and her team’s triumph made it a record 10th medal for the Americans in the event, but for 29-year-old Jessica, it was more special considering she has loved the sport since she was a little girl.

Speaking of her achievement, Jessica noted that she was overjoyed to succeed in the Tokyo Olympics and fulfill her dream of winning a top prize. This would be Bruce’s daughter’s first medal and her Olympic debut.

Currently, Jessica is ranked 14th in the world in showjumping. The 29-year-old was joined by her two teammates, two-time gold medalist McLain Ward and one-time gold medalist Laura Kraut for the Tokyo events.

Sadly for Jessica, athletes were not allowed to bring their loved ones to watch their career-defining moments, but she was consoled knowing her family was cheering her on in front of their screens.

HER SPECIAL HORSE

Jessica’s first taste of success was with her longtime pal, her 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion, Don Juan van de Donkhoeve. The horse came from Belgium, from the stables of the equestrian breeder, Gustaaf Quintelier.

Quintelier is said to breed about 20 foals per year, and Jessica’s horse comes from a lineage of professional racers. Quintelier's Equipharma Utopia van de Donkhoeve competed at the World Equestrian Games in 2010.

HER FAMILY’S REACTION

Jessica said in an interview that she contacted her family to share her good news and found that they were overjoyed, and she could barely hear a thing from their screaming.

Shortly after her victory, her famous mother, Patti Scialfa, took to Instagram to congratulate her daughter and the team and share her excitement over the big win. Jessica’s family has always been supportive of her journey.

Before leaving for the Olympics, the 29-year-old revealed that her parents were elated when they discovered she was selected to represent the USA in Tokyo.

Jessica’s love for the sport had also become her parents’ passion, so when they heard she was heading off to Tokyo, it was more of a family win than an individual achievement.

The silver-winning rider started riding horses at the age of five. The equestrian once noted that riding was part of her life growing up, and she had the support of her parents to help her focus on her passion.

Since she was a little girl, Jessica has been waiting for her big break. Although Tokyo was her first time in the spotlight, it was not her first time in the Olympics. She served as an alternate at the 2012 London Olympics but failed to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
