Owners Spend More than $4,000 on Dog's Birthday and Even Make a Life-Size Replica of Him
A couple in Nottingham, UK, showed their love for their dog by spending thousands on his birthday and gifting him a life-sized replica of himself. The occasion featured other lavish details which have spurred media criticism.
Nottingham couple Kieran and Lauren Blake have stirred an online frenzy after spending a fortune to celebrate their pet dog's 9th birthday. Among other extravagant items that made up the English Bulldog's birthday was a life-sized replica of the canine made from cake.
The idea struck the pair after coming across the cake designer Lara Mason's beautiful creations on TikTok. Hence, they commissioned the baker and founder of Cake Everything to do the honors.

Mason delivered the order just as requested, expending 80 eggs and 2.5 kilograms each of sugar, butter, and flour. She also exhausted about 3kg each of buttercream and ganache, and 5kg of modeling chocolate, completing the replica in three days.
The baker admitted the birthday cake was one of her unusual orders, which made it all the more fun to create. Besides the cake, the couple hired a luxurious boat for the special day.
A videographer was aboard the boat to capture the magical moment the cake was presented as the pride of place. He also filmed the entire event and made a music-video-style montage, with Dave at the center of it all. It was indeed a special day for the canine.
Speaking to TeamDogs, Kieran and Lauren admitted they made a point of throwing a lavish bash for the dog each year on his birthday.
Blake noted that since Dave was only with them for a short time, he deserved the special celebration, which was always bigger than theirs.
They were already looking forward to celebrating Dave's special day next year with a trip around Europe.
This year's celebration cost the couple over $4,000, which they were all too glad to spare. Over the years, they have spoiled the English pitbull with several creative-themed birthday parties.
Last year, the pair threw a COVID-themed bash for Dave amid the lockdown. Previous occasions have featured a pool party for dogs and humans and a cake-smash photoshoot. Interestingly, they were already looking forward to celebrating Dave's special day next year with a trip around Europe.
While many dog lovers were in awe of the lavish show of affection, most frowned against it, labeling the celebration as over the top. One person commented: "I am a dog lover. Have dogs of my own who are part of the family. But this is a bit over the top!"
Others seemed impressed by the couple, admiring everything about the lavish celebration. Commenting on the story, someone wrote: "This dog Dave did have a special birthday. 'Happy Birthday.' Lovely cake too. Too nice to eat."
Stories of people going all out for their pets' birthdays are not uncommon. Last year, a Texas resident caused a stir when he rented a billboard to announce his dog Dood's birthday to the world.
The man, Maxx Chewning, admitted his friends were displeased with the idea, especially after hearing of the exorbitant amount he paid for the electronic billboard.

Notwithstanding, knowing the efforts would make Dood, everyone in Texas town, and the rest of the world remember the memorable day made it worthwhile.
