Life is precious, but the struggles and suffering sometimes become too much to bear, and for Owen Wilson, this point came when his first-ever serious relationship fell apart. He also opened up about his dark days.

For Owen Wilson, his love for the young and beautiful Kate Hudson was more precious than his life, and so when she was spotted getting cozy with a different man, he preferred to end his life … except that did not happen.

The unfortunate event became a divided topic of conversation as some claimed that Wilson's suicide attempt was based on his split from Hudson. In contrast, others attributed it to his long-time struggle with drug use.

THE TUMULTUOUS RELATIONSHIP

"The Wedding Crashers" star's most serious relationship was with Kate Hudson, and in 2007, they went through a nasty breakup after Kate accused Wilson of lacking commitment.

Wilson became a household name in the entertainment industry thanks to his roles in "Wedding Crashers," "Cars," "Marley and Me," and "Midnight in Paris," among many others.

It was while filming his movies that he met the beautiful Kate Hudson and fell in love. The couple was filming "You, Me and Dupree" when they began their months-long affair.

Half a year into the revered relationship, the couple broke up, and the aftermath of the split led to a life-threatening event for the gold-haired actor.

Today, Wilson is a parent of three, as is Hudson.

Soon after they ended things, photos surfaced of the "Almost Famous" actress sharing close intimate moments with her new love interest Dax Shepherd, and it seems this was what threw Wilson off the edge.

WILSON TAKES DRASTIC ACTION

Unfortunately, in a bid to end the pain from his heartbreak, Wilson attempted to take his own life. The tow-haired, Tinsel town hunk had been discovered by his brother at his home looking dazed from the pills.

He was admitted to the Los Angeles Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was immediately put on medication. A source reported to the New York Post at the time revealed how hard it had been on his family, especially since Wilson was such a wonderful person.

His neighbor seconded the sentiments, saying that they had been shocked at the events that unfolded owing to the fact that Wilson was a great and smart guy and never caused trouble for anyone. They hoped he got better.

Wilson, soon after feeling better, released a statement through his representative, asking the media to give him privacy. The New York Post reports:

“I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time."

Despite the attempt on taking his own life, Wilson was soon back in a relationship with Hudson. She was often photographed wearing a huge diamond ring, with Wilson having proposed in Miami.

They were set to marry the following year, and the then 28-year-old Hudson was ecstatic at the thought of marrying Wilson. However, this too did not last, and soon after, they once again called it off.

WHAT REALLY WAS THE REASON?

While some channels reported the split to be the sole reason for Wilson's suicide attempt, some were of a different opinion. Some reported the attempt to have stemmed from Wilson's long struggle with drug use and depression.

According to Us Weekly, Wilson's dependency on heroin and cocaine may have been the major reason he wanted to do away with his life. The magazine also claimed that Wilson's friends were "all too aware" of his struggles and depression.

There was also one person to blame for Wilson's troubles — British actor Steve Coogan, one of Wilson's closest friends, is said to have been living a raucous lifestyle and could have greatly influenced the breakdown.

It was also reported that three days before the attempt on his life, Wilson had visited the Santa Monica Church, probably an indicator that he had been seeking help or spiritual guidance.

Wilson's representative, however, denied all claims that the actor had used heroin or cocaine in his life, and the real reason behind the attempt remains a mystery, with people not knowing what truly pushed Wilson to make such an extreme decision.

Today, Wilson is a parent of three, as is Hudson. However, neither of the two have made any life-long commitments with their significant others, and fans still hold out hope that they will find their way back into each other's arms.
