Designer Olivier Rousteing Opens Up about Fireplace Explosion Burns He Suffered Last Year
Olivier Rousteing, the famous Balmain designer, has recently opened up about the housefire that caused him to end up in the hospital with burns all over his body.
The incident took place a year ago, and, according to the Rousteing, he did everything in his power to make sure that what happened remained a secret.
However, he has now decided to come forward to tell his story and did so by sharing a photo in which he can be seen in a very vulnerable state with bandages wrapped around his torso, arms, and head.

IT HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY
In the caption accompanying the photo, Rousting explained that his fireplace exploded and that he woke up in the Saint Louis hospital, in Paris, France, the next morning.
He also obsesses over his own insecurities.
The fashion designer started out by praising the whole staff, who took great care of him even though they were "dealing with an incredible number of COVID cases at the same time." He added:
"I cannot thank them enough. To the doctors and nurses at Saint Louis, and to all those who helped me during this long recovery and kept my secret: a profound thank-you. I love you."
HIDING FROM THE WORLD
As aforementioned, Rousteing tried to keep the whole situation under wraps, going as far as hiding his appearance with facemasks, turtlenecks, long sleeves, and even multiple rings on his fingers.
The designer admitted, in his statement, that he is not really sure why he was so ashamed of what happened at the time, but suggested a possible "obsession with perfection" as the reason behind it.

According to him, aside from fashion, he also obsesses over his own insecurities, but that the incident made him realize that social media only reveals what someone wants to show the world. He said:
"Kind of allowing us to create our own special narrative that avoids what we do not wish to see or show: this is our new world."
