In 2019, a single mother, Naomi Knighton, had to accept that she would be forced to leave behind her six-year-old son, J'varn, following a long battle with a rare form of leukemia.

The 26-year-old woman, who hailed from Derby, United Kingdom was unsure of how much time she had left; however, the doctors had advised her to "prepare for the worst."

Although Knighton knew how bad things had gotten, what troubled her the most was telling her little son that she would not be around for much longer.

The dying woman was only a teenager when diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. Knighton's mother had noticed that her daughter frequently suffered from colds, coughs, and throat infections.

So, multiple tests were run, and the results revealed that Knighton had an aggressive condition. The disease affected her white blood cells and tended to progress in intensity slowly over the years.

However, Knighton was given a chance to buy some more time by accepting a mixture of chemotherapy and steroids — an option she did not resist.

Kristy explained that there were a few times that the doctors were stunned when Knighton got through it.

Knighton eventually went through chemotherapy, and despite having two bone marrow transplants, the very aggressive cancer reached a terminal stage.

In an interview, Knighton's sister, Kristy, revealed that it was hard to believe that her sister succumbed to the disease after fighting it for several years. She said the family had watched Knighton go through a lot and always assumed she would make it.

Furthermore, Kristy explained that there were a few times that the doctors were stunned when Knighton got through it. However, it was a nightmare seeing her sister, who was very strong, losing the battle to cancer.

Sadly, the sick woman could only hide her status from her son for a short while and eventually told him she was dying. Surprisingly, Kristy relayed that J'varn took the news well.

According to her, the six-year-old quickly accepted his mother's fate because she had always been sick, and he was used to seeing her in and out of the hospital, which helped him somehow.

After sharing the news with the little boy, Knighton's family decided to raise money for her funeral. They set up a GoFundMe page, noting that the funds derived would be used to cover the cost of a white coffin, a nice headstone, and a party with music and dancing after Knighton's funeral.
