Mom Is Told Son Would Die at 2, Now He's Inspiring People as the Oldest Person with His Сondition
A medical mystery, one young man continues to shock the world after he disobeys the laws of nature multiple times -- all with a glint of love and humor in his eyes.
Colombian Christopher Álvarez, a Queens resident, is a walking marvel born with a deadly disease and skeletal disorder called Thanatophoric dysplasia type 2.
The condition is so synonymous with death that, as his mom claimed, the literal definition of Thanatophoric dysplasia type 2 is "death bearing."

AN IMPOSSIBLE SERIES OF EVENTS
This is why, when the doctor predicted that Álvarez would not live past the age of 2 years old, there was no questioning his prognosis.
However, as the years went on, the young boy continued to survive again and again. Álvarez defied the odds despite the same doctor's continuous predictions that he was close to death's door.

A MEDICAL MYSTERY
He has become the oldest person living with this disease -- in 2021, he stated he was now 24 years old. Facetiously, Álvarez expressed:
"Every single year we go to the same doctor and we rub it in his face that I'm still alive."
Although he needs constant assistance from brushing his teeth to bathing, the Queens resident is determined not to let his disability define him.
LOUD AMBITIONS
He is determined not just to survive but thrive and make something great out of his life. One of his goals is to become a journalist, and it looks as if he is well on his way.
Álvarez has completed a degree in journalism with honors at Adelphi University in New York. The 24-year-old has also been accepted via the Héctor Figueroa Scholarship, now doing his Masters in journalism at Columbia University.
ACHIEVING THE IMPOSSIBLE
Using his expertise in journalism, he tracks down celebrities, takes pictures with them, and posts them on Instagram for his many followers. With his usual whimsical humor, Álvarez said:
"
help me with my journalism."
He has met many famous individuals such as Billie Eilish, Tom Holland, and more. DJ Khaled even provided Álvarez with his personal phone number, his own chain and arranged a one-on-one.
THE POWER OF ACCEPTING ONESELF
The budding journalist truly believes in self-love, stating that he wants the world to know that each of us is amazing in our unique way. He emphasized:
"Love yourself first and accept who you are so you can be the light for everyone else.”
Álvarez reminds us through his tenacity and comical temperament that nothing can stop us from achieving our dreams. We simply have to find our inner strength, learn to love ourselves, and remember to laugh along the way.
