Who Is Teresa Ruiz? Meet the 'Father Stu' Star Who Was 'Perfect' for Mark Wahlberg's Film

Teresa Ruiz has become one of the biggest names to emerge from the Mexican film industry and is on track to become a leading Hollywood star. Here's a look into her life and career.

Hollywood always has room for the next big star, and recently, Teresa Ruiz has become a household name in the movie industry.

Ruiz has already racked up several hit movies to her credit and has been nominated for many prominent awards, and appeared in movies such as "Father Stu," "The Marksman," "The Delivery," and "Gringo Honeymoon."

Ruiz, who was born in Santiago Matatlan in Oaxaca, Mexico, moved with her family to the United States and lived in El Paso, Texas. She went on to live with her aunt in California when she was 14.

However, staying away from her family made her homesick. So, to help with her feelings, Ruiz turned to acting in high school. Her early roles as a student gave her an insight into her acting skills.

Ruiz began her career in 2006 playing Pipani in the Mexican film "Bien Benido Paisano." The 34-year-old's hard work began to pay off in 2009 when she won the Ariel, the Mexican equivalent of the Oscars, for her role in "Viaje Redondo."

"The Marksman" actress had her big break in the Mexican hit TV series "Narcos: Mexico," where she played Isabella Bautista, one of the key members of the Guadalajara drug cartel.

Her character, Bautista, is the girlfriend of drug lord Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo. Although her role is based on a fictitious person, it draws inspiration from real-life female drug lords such as Sandra Ávila Beltrán.

"Narcos: Mexico" delves deeply into the brutal drug conflicts of the Guadalajara Cartel in 1980s Mexico, focusing on marijuana boss Gallardo and the DEA operatives hellbent on pinning him down.

The show not only made Ruiz famous but more aware of her culture. Since embracing her on-screen character, Ruiz confessed to falling in love with her culture and history.

RUIZ IS THRILLED BY HER NEW ROLE

Ruiz has been cast alongside Hollywood greats like Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson in the thriller "Father Stu," which premieres on April 13, 2022. She feels a sense of pride in representing Latinas in Hollywood.

"Father Stu," written and directed by Rosalind Ross, features several thrilling moments with many talking points. Ruiz plays the bright Carmen, who is described as witty and lovely.

The actress confessed her admiration for the new film during a chat with Hola. Asides from working with more experienced Hollywood vets, Ruiz felt the script was a perfect match with what she loves to play. She told Hola:

"I was sent the script. I read it. I really liked it because it spoke about a vocation and faith and the capacity of a human being to be redeemed and to grow and to become whoever that person wants to become."

Ruiz looks forward to the lovely reviews and rating the movie will receive following its premiere. The actress, who lives in a cottage-style house in Santa Monica where she draws inspiration, believes "Father Stu" will be warmly received by critics.
