Pierce Brosnan has played the role of James Bond four times and was People magazine's 2001 "Sexiest Man Alive." Over the years, the actor has built a solid career and reputation for himself.

He is known to take on adventurous roles, such as he did with characters like Julian Noble, Remington Steele, Thomas Crown, and, of course, James Bond — roles where the actor has a license to kill and a fondness for seduction.

The Irish actor and producer, who celebrated his 69th birthday on May 16, 2022, had a rough childhood, an unhappy experience in school, and ended up getting lost in a world of Westerns and comic-book heroes, and Norman Wisdom movies.

At 16, the actor dropped out of school, joined a theatrical group, honed his craft, and won a place at the Drama Centre of London. He moved from being an assistant stage manager to understudy for the lead and becoming a lead man.

Shortly after, the actor met his first wife, Cassandra Harris, who persuaded him to give Hollywood a try, and the rest became history. However, is Pierce Brosnan, who played suave secret agents, as seductive as his most famous characters?

Three years after their marriage, they welcomed a son, Sean Brosnan. When the father of Harris' children passed away in 1986, Brosnan officially adopted them, and they took his surname.

HOW DID PIERCE BROSNAN LOSE HIS FIRST WIFE?

In 1987, Brosnan and Harris found out that she was suffering from an aggressive form of ovarian cancer in her late 30s. Despite the toll it took on them, Brosnan said:

"Cassie took her destiny in her own hands with incredible courage and grace."

He was always there for his wife as she went through four years of treatment, eight surgeries, and 18 months of chemo. Unfortunately, in December of 1991, they realized it was the end.

Harris died on December 28, 1991, at 43 and left Brosnan with their three children. Despite it being a difficult period for him, Brosnan said:

"She has made me the man I am, the actor I am, the father I am. She's forever embedded in every fiber of my being. [...] I was so blessed to have met someone like that."

In 2013, Brosnan was struck by another tragedy when he lost his daughter, Charlotte, at 41, to the same disease that took her mother.

WHY PIERCE BROSNAN HAD TO DEFEND HIS WIFE

Over the years, people had expected Brosnan to act like his characters in real life with a penchant for seduction. However, the actor has always remained faithful in his relationships.

The actor, who has been married to Smith for over two decades, had to defend his wife over vicious hate comments in recent years.

In addition to dealing with strangers talking about Smith's body, Brosnan revealed that their family friends had suggested surgery to help her lose weight. In her defense, he said:

"But I strongly love every curve of her body. She is the most beautiful woman in my eyes. And also because she had our five children."

Brosnan has always loved his wife for her person and loves her even more now that they have children. The actor proves that outsiders' opinions of his wife will not faze him.
