The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, showed up to the premiere of "Top Gun: Maverick" in a dress with a Bardot neckline and set internet search engines ablaze! Fashion icon Brigitte Bardot revived the dress in the 1960s.

The sequel to the 1986 action drama had its United Kingdom premiere in London on May 19, 2022. Tom Cruise, who was delighted to be back on the red carpet, reprises his role as hot-shot Navy lieutenant Maverick for the sequel.

The film, which had its world premiere at CinemaCon on Thursday, April 28, 2022, was expected to be released in July 2019 but will now be in cinemas from May 25, 2022.

For the evening, Prince William and Kate Middleton went glam as they helped welcome the "Top Gun: Maverick" castmates, including Cruise, Jennifer Connelly, Monica Barbaro, Miles Teller, and more.

According to the royals, the UK premiere supports the work of Film and TV Charity. The charity helps thousands of people working behind the scenes in the UK's film and television industry.

William wore an Alexander McQueen velvet tuxedo which he paired with a Crocket & Jones loafers that paid a nod to Cruise's character with "F-18" on them. Kate channeled old Hollywood glamour in a black and white dress.

Kate showed up on the red carpet with an off-the-shoulder all-black dress with a white bandeau neckline. The dress, known as the Bardot dress, inherited its name from Brigitte Bardot, who added her twist on the style.

The French actress and fashion icon made the look a popular choice, and the trend never left fashion. The collarbone-baring neckline with sleeves is referred to as the Bardot, and it looks great on a dress, jumpsuit, or blouse.

Kate's dress which Roland Mouret designed, was an updated version of the designer's original dress. While her dress featured an all-black back, the original version had sheer cutouts with gold exposed zip fastening at the back.

According to Lovethesales site, as per People, the searches for "Bardot dress" spiked within 24 hours after the movie premiere. "Bardot dress" and "black-and-white dresses" spiked by 263 percent and 162 percent.

Kate has always been big on fashion, and this is not the first time she has had to alter her dress so that it could fit in her royal wardrobe. She has mastered the art of adjusting her outfits to suit current trends.

The Duchess, whose style has evolved, often makes changes to give a more conservative, classier, smarter, and modest look when she steps out.

Kate would add more fabric to cover the sheer for outfits with sheer parts. She would sometimes recycle old attires by changing up the style of the sleeves.

The lover of Alexander McQueen's dresses once altered a dress she wore in 2012 when she repeated it in 2020. In 2020, she added a lining and adapted the sleeves to flatter her figure while also adding shoulder pads to create a more structured look.
