Some Hollywood celebrity couples rarely put their children in the limelight, and Sarah Jessica Parker is no exception. She is one of the few who want their children to have as normal a childhood as possible.

While she rarely posts her three children on her Instagram page, they can occasionally be seen on the red carpets, supporting their famous parents. Her son, James Wilkie Broderick, has accompanied her and her husband several times. Here's all you need to know about him.

"He is 19. Today. He doesn't wake with us. He is in his life. Away. In his studies. Among new friends. Sending home details. There is so much to tell. New adults making lasting impressions. Opening his still young eyes."

She further wrote that it was a bittersweet feeling not to be with him to wish him the happiest of birthdays. However, Parker hoped that all of his birthday wishes would come true.

JAMES WORE HAND-ME-DOWNS IN HIS EARLY YEARS

Parker's upbringing was not glamorous, despite her celebrity status, thanks to "Sex and the City." She said:

"I don't think I've ever bought him any clothes. I do buy him shoes because everybody's feet are different."

Parker revealed that she dressed him in her brothers' clothes that her mother had saved and in hand-me-downs from her older nephews.

Parker never wanted to raise her children in a life of excess and luxury. She believed that it was up to her and her husband to show them by example what it meant to owe their community.

The couple ensured their children knew they were not entitled to the benefits of their hard work. Ultimately, she hopes they have raised their children to the best of their abilities.

JAMES HAS A GREAT GROUP OF FRIENDS

James's parents are never shy to talk about their parenting styles in interviews. Parker, who believes in the importance of having conversations as a family, said she usually listens in on her son and his friends. She said:

"Sometimes I just sit on the stairs because they're all in the kitchen, eating all the food, and I listen. And I'm so charmed by their conversation. I'm so happy with the young man he's becoming."

The mother-of-three is also proud that their children talk to them in the way they do. Parker said their children are "curious people," and she called her son's group of friends great people.

JAMES HAS A LOT OF HOBBIES

Despite her fame, Parker said her home is average as her children don't talk about her work, and conversations are centered around school, soccer, interning, university, what's missing, and how to spend time.

For James, his Instagram feed reflects a wide range of interests, including reading, football, and hanging out with close pals, who tag him in photos ranging from proms to art gallery exhibits.

He is a student at Brown University, the ivy league school in Providence, and although his major is not known, his Instagram profile says he is a "musician/band."

JAMES IS A LOW-KEY PERSON

For now, James has proven to be low-key even though he has amassed over 22,000 followers on his Instagram page, where he has posted only 25 pictures. However, he has made a few major red carpet appearances with his family.

He attended the movie premiere of "And Just Like That," and in 2017, he and his twin sisters, Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge, attended the Broadway opening of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." If his music career progresses, James might unleash some star power.

INSIDE THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN JAMES'S PARENTS

Parker and Matthew met in 1991 but married in 1997. When they met, she had just broken up with Robert Downey Jr. At the time, Matthew was directing a play for her older brothers' company, the Naked Angels Theater Company.

One of her brothers then introduced her to Matthew in November 1991. Months passed before he left her a voicemail on February 1, 1992. Shortly after that, they started dating.

Even though they loved the theatre, they did not work together until after four years of dating. They worked in the revival of the classic musical "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying." Parker confessed that she was nervous acting alongside him.

In 2022, the couple returned to Broadway in the revival of Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite." The show, delayed from March 2020 to February 2022, has extended its performances till July 10, 2022.

On May 19, 1997, Parker and Matthew had a surprise, intimate wedding at Angel Orensanz Synagogue. Their guests had thought it was a party and were shocked it was a wedding.

On October 28, 2002, the couple welcomed their first child, James Wilkie. Years later, Parker said his birth was one of the most extraordinary moments of her life. She said:

"If I could revisit one moment in my life, it would be the birth of my children, definitely."

James is not the only child of Parker and Matthew, as their family expanded on June 22, 2009, when they welcomed their twin daughters Marion and Tabitha via a surrogate.
