Like most women, Alexis aspired to have a child of their own. In 2007, Alexis opened up about her fertility struggles in an interview with renowned TV presenter Oprah Winfrey.

Alexis was so intent on fulfilling her dream of becoming a mother that she spent around $28,000 every month on her quest to have a child.

She admitted to Oprah that she intended to become a mother when she was 36. However, she admitted that it was "not a good time."

Alexis reflected on why she had not yet started a family, including the fact that she was preoccupied with her career. Once she reached her 40s, she started visiting fertility doctors and attempted different procedures. Alexis confessed that trying to get pregnant was not easy because her eggs were "dry and crusty."

Alexis sought help from Dr. John Zhang at the New Hope Fertility Center in Manhattan. In 2011, four years after her interview with Oprah, she finally became a mother.

On March 6, 2012, Alexis's second child, a son named Truman, was also born via surrogate. The little bundle of joy arrived just days before his big sister's birthday.

While Alexis is grateful that Martha helped her financially during her journey to become a mother, there was a point in her life when she was unhappy with how her mother raised her. As a result, she became estranged from her renowned parent.

According to ABC News, in her book "Whateverland: Learning to Live Here," Alexis claimed in 2011 that Martha aspired for perfection on TV but was not a perfect parent. She also had a challenging relationship with her father.

Of her two parents, Alexis was more distant from her mother. She disclosed that her mother was entirely hands-off with her upbringing. It is impossible to beat her mother at anything, she says in the book.

Alexis said her mom would make her start over if the task at hand was not completed to her satisfaction. She joked that she was raised with a glue gun aimed at her head.

The radio host also revealed that her mother was not as pleasant as her public persona appeared. While recalling her childhood experiences, Alexis claimed that Martha was so engrossed with her career that she forgot to put food in the refrigerator.

Martha insisted that Alexis wrap her own holiday presents, and they never did trick-or-treating because the media mogul found Halloween a "grim affair."

She recalled that instead of enjoying the season, they turned out the lights and pretended they were not at home. As she claimed in the book, her mother was simply "not interested in being kid-friendly."

Aside from her alleged questionable parenting style, Martha also has a reputation for not being the best boss. She has been described as a "control freak" who reduces her staff to tears with her strict management style.

IS ALEXIS IN A BETTER PLACE WITH MARTHA NOW?

Martha and Alexis had a rocky relationship, but their bond became stronger while she was in prison. The book Alexis wrote was dedicated to her mom. She said:

In 2005, the mother-daughter duo collaborated on "The Apprentice." Alexis's own career has also benefited from Martha's vast business network.

It's not easy being Martha's daughter because the media mogul has a tendency to be a perfectionist. Even so, their mother-daughter bond appears to be strong and healthy, as she is quick to stand up for her mom when others speak ill of her.
