7-Year-Old Boy Left Motherless and Fighting for His Life after Russian Missile Attack

Seven-year-old Roman Olkesiv from Vinnytsia, Ukraine, lost his mother during a Russian missile attack. He survived but continues to fight for his life; however, Roman's father has been by his side daily, playing his favorite music.

Halyna and Yaroslav Olkesiv were a beautiful couple from Vinnytsia, Ukraine. They had a seven-year-old son Roman, who his father described as a music lover and dancer.

The apple does not fall far from the tree because Halyna and Yaroslav were professional musicians. Halyna was a well-known accordionist; her husband is also a famous and respected accordionist and the dean of the Lviv Music Academy.

ROMAN FIGHTS FOR HIS LIFE

The talented family that plays one of the oldest musical instruments found themselves in a difficult situation that altered their lives forever.

On July 14, 2022, Roman and Halyna were in Ukraine's central city of Vinnytsia; the mother and son's day in the town was shattered by a Russian missile attack, which left Roman motherless and fighting for his life.

According to Yaroslav, his son was still conscious when the paramedics arrived, and he could say his name. The boy also mentioned he was with his mother, who unfortunately died. Her DNA was found in the fabric of her shirt and braces.

Roman was then rushed to the Medical Association of Lviv. The medical representatives said he had suffered severe injuries and would be undergoing intensive medical care.

However, the seven-year-old boy has now been transferred to a hospital in Germany to help with proper medical attention that will get him healed.

ROMAN'S FATHER STAYS POSITIVE

Roman's father, Yaroslav, is heartbroken by what has happened to his family. But he is also not giving up; the father of the seven-year-old shared a post on his Facebook to honor his wife.

Yaroslav wrote that Halyna would have been turning 30 on July 28, and even though she will not be here to celebrate her milestone birthday, he is proud of his son's strength.

As the musically inclined family they are, Yaroslav said he tries to create a calming environment by playing Roman his favorite music.

Roman loves music that allows him to show off his ballroom dances, and his father believes he will dance through this battle.

Yaroslav said his son is a fighter like his mother, so despite the long recovery journey ahead, he knows his son will come out victorious.

The tragedy that has come upon the Olkesiv family carries unimaginable pain. People from social media are also horrified by what has happened to seven-year-old Roman.

Doctors are also touched by what the boy has endured and are determined to get him feeling more like his usual self again.

WISHING ROMAN A FULL RECOVERY

The day Roman and his mother went to the city, Yaroslav could not have imagined that would be the last time he saw his wife or that he would soon have his son in such a critical condition.

Despite the heartbreak that Yaroslav is experiencing, his son is still his priority. In an interview, the seven-year-old's father said he was grateful that Roman's life was spared.

Doctors are also touched by what the boy has endured and are determined to get him feeling more like his usual self again. Currently, Roman is in an induced coma and has undergone multiple surgeries.

Yaroslav said he is with him every minute and patiently waits for his fighter son to beat the odds. This cannot be easy for a parent to endure, and the family remains in everyone's thoughts and prayers. We look forward to Roman healing and returning to his everyday life again.
