While many anticipate one of the most important activities — the state funeral, they will have to wait for more than a week as Queen Elizabeth will not be buried immediately. Here are the details.

Since the tragic demise of Queen Elizabeth II was announced on September 8, 2022, an outpouring of sympathy has already flooded the United Kingdom from all over the world, including from within the Royal Family itself.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle are not an exception, as they paid a subtle tribute to the late monarch on the Archewell Foundation website.

After the news of the Queen's death broke, the front page of the Archewell Foundation website changed to a simple black background with white text that reads (per Los Angeles Times):

"In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926 to 2022."

At the time of the monarch's passing, Prince Harry was present with other Royal Family members in Balmoral, Queen Elizabeth's Scottish retreat, where she had been placed under medical supervision and ultimately passed away.

On the other hand, Markle joined the likes of Kate Middleton, who did not join other Royal Family members at Balmoral. Following the death of his grandmother, the Duke of Sussex is expected to remain in the UK until after the state funeral, expected to be held on September 19, 2022.

Meanwhile, there are speculations Markle is likely to attend the Queen's funeral, even though she was not present at Prince Phillip's last service.

According to Royal Correspondent Omid Scobie, despite the rift between the Sussexes and the Royal Family, Markle and Queen Elizabeth's bond was as strong as ever.

The Royal expert noted that Lilibet's name, a homage to the Queen's moniker, was proof of the duo's closeness. Even during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, Markle herself noted that she was on good terms with Queen Elizabeth.

According to the former actress, the late monarch had always been wonderful to her. Markle further shared an interesting story about Her Majesty sharing a blanket with her on a cold day. She recalled that it made her think of her grandmother, who had always been warm, inviting, and welcoming.

Sadly, despite the great bond between the Sussexes and Queen Elizabeth, netizens still criticized the couple for instigating the feud by stepping back from their royal duties in 2020.

According to one user, due to the Harry and Markle saga, the Queen went through a lot in the last years of her life, adding that if he were the monarch, Markle would not be welcome at the homegoing service.

On the other hand, some well-meaning users showed support for the couple. One of the respondents noted that those who blamed Harry and Markle for the Queen's ill health should not forget she was 96 years old.

Queen Elizabeth's death sets in motion a finely choreographed plan honed and planned to the last detail over decades. Firstly, Her Majesty will lie in state in the grand hall of the Palace of Westminster for four days before she is finally laid to rest. During that period, public members will be allowed into Westminster hall to file past and pay their last respects.

Lady Glenconner, a lady-in-waiting for Princess Margaret, claimed that the latter was cremated because she had requested to be buried between her parents, and there was only room for ashes.

After the lying in state is concluded, a state funeral will be held for Queen Elizabeth, reportedly on September 19, 2022. Unlike her husband's funeral at Windsor Castle, the monarch's funeral will take place at Westminster Abbey, during which there will be a national two-minute silence at noon.

Later, a funeral procession will reportedly be held in Windsor and London, while the committal service will take place at St. George's Chapel.

Unlike the Duke of Edinburgh, reports have revealed that Queen Elizabeth will receive a full state funeral. This event will see royal traditions like gun carriage, used to move the coffin to different locations, and an all-black attire with mourning bands for the Royal Family members.

After the occasion, the late monarch will go down in history as the tenth person to receive a state funeral since 1901. Her funeral comes almost six decades after the ninth state funeral, held for Winston Churchill in 1965. Undoubtedly, it will be one of the biggest historical events, hosting many dignitaries worldwide.

According to a report, heads of state, presidents and prime ministers, European royals, and very important persons in society will likely be in attendance. Also, all Royal Family members, including the Queen's children, their partners, and children, might be present.

Thankfully, royal fans and the public are not left out of the equation, as the state funeral will reportedly be televised. Later that evening, Queen Elizabeth will be finally laid to rest during a private interment service with senior members of the Royal Family.

She will be buried in King George VI Memorial Chapel in Windsor Castle with her parents and sister. The Queen's late father, King George VI, was buried in the chapel on March 26, 1969, after spending 17 years in the Royal vault.

Then, in 2002, Queen Elizabeth's mother was buried there, followed by the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret, who passed away in 2002.

Lady Glenconner, a lady-in-waiting for Princess Margaret, claimed that the latter was cremated because she had requested to be buried between her parents, and there was only room for ashes.

Nevertheless, one way or another, the late princess got what she wanted. Meanwhile, Prince Philip is expected to join his wife and her family at the chapel. Following his death on April 9, 2021, the Duke of Edinburgh was buried in the Royal Vault at St George's Chapel.

However, after Queen Elizabeth's death, Prince Philip is expected to be moved and reburied beside his wife. May their souls continue to rest in peace.
