Kate Winslet Faced Body Shaming & Promotes Natural Beauty Because Cosmetic Surgery Goes against Her Morals
Hollywood's leading lady, Kate Winslet, has decided to age gracefully despite being on the receiving end of body shaming. She has stood by her stance on allowing her aging process to be as natural as possible.
English actress Kate Winslet has been married to her long-time love, Edward Abel Smith, for a decade. The couple were first linked in 2011 and secretly wed a year later in December 2012 in upstate New York.
The pair, who have a son named Bear, have been together ever since and have kept a low profile over the years. However, Winslet has spoken fondly about her husband in the media.

The "Titanic" star once revealed to The New York Times in 2021 that Smith initially had no plans of marrying a famous woman while divulging exciting facts about him:
"He didn't particularly plan on meeting and marrying a woman who is in the public eye and, therefore, has been so judged. He's vegan, does yoga, breath work, and cold water swims."

Winslet even credited the love of her life for some of her recent professional success. She shared that Smith has been "incredibly supportive" in her acting career:
"My creative life in the last few years has been really, really, colorful for me. And I've really, really enjoyed being able to embrace that. I have a wonderful man in my life who is incredibly supportive that makes it possible for me to have those experiences. It's been really a fun time."
Smith accompanied his wife to the 2021 Emmy Awards, where she bagged the trophy for Outstanding Actress in a Limites Series or Movie.
Per People, the starlet said when she attended the ceremony ten years prior, she knew she would spend her life with her spouse when she met him. Winslet stated she was madly in love with her future husband at the time and could not focus on the event:
"So, having him here it's really quite special."

Smith is now a stay-at-home dad, and his spouse revealed that he happily looks after her and their now 8-year-old son. "He is an extraordinary partner," Winslet gushed over her husband – who helps her run lines for scripted projects – although he has dyslexia.
"The Reader" star expressed that she was very fortunate to have a partner who, despite his condition, made an effort to help her whenever he could. "He's absolutely everything to me. And to all of us," she said.
Despite Her Success - Winslet Struggled with Body Image
Though she has had a thriving acting career, it has not been easy for Winslet. In February 2021, she spoke candidly about being body shamed as a young star in her twenties which heavily affected her confidence:
"In my 20s, people would talk about my weight a lot. After starring in 'The Titanic,' Joan Rivers once said, 'If she just lost lbs., [Leonardo DiCaprio] would've been able to fit on the raft.'"
Winslet was 21 years old and deemed the tabloid coverage around her weight "shocking, critical, and straight-up cruel."
The Oscar Award winner shared that she was still trying to figure out who she was then and had the press comment on her weight and even estimated how much she weighed.
They printed the supposed diet she was on and zeroed in on her appearance. "It was critical and horrible and so upsetting to read," said Winslet.
Unlike other celebrity women, Winslet has sung a different tune regarding staying young and relevant in showbiz. Now that she is in her forties, the mother of three vowed to keep her appearance as is. Per The Telegraph, the "Divergent" star stated that she would never give in to Hollywood pressure to undergo cosmetic surgery:
"It goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up, and what I consider to be natural beauty. I will never give in."
Winslet said because of the nature of her profession, she does not want to "freeze the expression of my face." Still, back then, she believed that women in show business had to look skinny to appeal to the public and feared that if the film failed, she would be blamed and used as a scapegoat.
However, per Goalcast, her former co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio, advised her differently and changed her entire perspective about beauty. The actor told her not to overthink her body shape and love herself as she is:
"You know, it's really important that you are the shape that you are."
Winslet noted that it was an unforeseen conversation that she and DiCaprio had on set. He told her many Hollywood women firmly believed they had to be thin to be successful and beautiful.
Following that advice, Winslet remained true to herself and flaunted her curves and physique confidently, and the movie became a great success despite the critics surrounding her appearance.
The award-winning film stopped worrying about what people thought of her weight once she realized the importance of being a role model to other young women.
Winslet was nominated for an Oscar at age 21 and told herself that she would continue to hold her head up high and be comfortable in her skin after being asked to comment on her appearance.
In June 2021, she told The Telegraph that she has since made it her priority to ensure that the characters she plays on the big screen appear "relatable" to the audience.
During the interview, Winslet talked about playing detective Mare Sheehan in the seven-part miniseries "Mare of Easttown", a fictionalized town in Pennsylvania. She said Sheehan could not care less about her looks, adding that she must avoid putting on too much makeup for the character.
Despite promoting natural beauty, Winslet still cares about her skin and hair. She revealed to the outlet that keeping one's skin "boosted and hydrated" is essential.
Winslet is a big fan of anti-aging treatments but does not use multiple products simultaneously. Instead, she washes her face with cold water every morning to remove puffiness and keep the pores intact.
She revealed that she colored her hair during lockdown but did not get it right. When asked whether she had grey hairs she wanted to be covered up, the "Hamlet" star shared she does not have gray hair yet but does suffer from browns (when her hair gets dark colored at the roots).
