Lupita Nyong'O Has Officially Had Only One Boyfriend & Prefers to Hide Her Personal Life
Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o rarely talks about her personal life as she prefers to keep it private. Her decision has not stopped fans from making speculations about her dating life. However, Lupita Nyong'o has only confirmed one relationship with her boyfriend in the past.
Kenyan-Mexican actress Lupita Nyong'o got her breakthrough role in 2013 after graduating from Yale School of Drama when she starred as the enslaved woman, Patsey, in "12 Years a Slave."
She has since starred in other movies, stage shows, and series such as "Queen of Katwe," "Us," "Black Panther," "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," and the upcoming "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."
On October 3, 2022, Marvel Studios released the trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to the superhero film "Black Panther." The trailer sees the return of Nyong'o, who plays Nakia, a member of the secret police and the late T'Challa's lover.
However, with the death of Chadwick Boseman, who played T'Challa, the King of Wakanda, Marvel Studios also killed his character. Having lost their king, the Wakandans need a new Black Panther, and based on the trailer released, the next Black Panther looks like a woman.
Is Lupita Nyong'o Dating Now?
Nyong'o prefers not to talk about her personal life. She actively shares photos from her vacation with fans and promotes her projects but says nothing about her relationship or whether she currently has a partner.
Jared Leto called her his future ex-wife.
The actress believes that privacy in her line of work is a scarce commodity, and sometimes, she gets lonely. However, in an interview with Vogue, she hinted at being in a relationship as of 2019.
Nyong'o stated that filming could be time-consuming and intense, and having a family or someone to go back home to help deal with the loneliness. She said:
"With Black Panther, a lot of us were single. On Little Monsters, nobody was single. Everyone [...] wants to go home to their families [...] When you don't have that it's very isolating."
Lupita Nyong'o Had Only 1 Officially Confirmed Boyfriend
Nyong'o's only confirmed relationship was with Keinan Abdi Warsame, the Somali-Canadian musician and poet popularly known as K'naan.
Rumors of their relationship began in 2014 after she starred in "12 Years a Slave." Fans spotted them showing affection for each other at parties and backstage during her press meetings.

Nyong'o and K'naan had met in New York and started dating in September 2013. After secretly dating for six months, their relationship became public.
One year later, the couple, who had reportedly bonded over their shared African heritage and humanitarian work, was said to have ended their relationship.
According to the reports, the actress called off the relationship. However, Lupita Nyong'o, who does not want to comment on her relationship, never addressed why they split.

Lupita Nyong'o Was Associated with Several A-Listers
There have been rumors about Nyong'o's dating life, and she has been linked to having relationships with various Hollywood stars. Most of the celebrities she has rumoredly dated were her colleagues on movie sets.
After starring in "12 Years a Slave" with Michael Fassbender, rumors began that they were dating as they were physically demonstrative at the Academy Awards, where she won Best Supporting Actress.
According to the rumors, the actor ended his relationship because he was in love with Nyong'o, as they had an incredible connection.

During the 2014 awards season, Nyong'o and Jared Leto sparked dating rumors. At the 2014 Independent Spirit Award, where he won best supporting actor, he thanked the actress while receiving his award. Leto said:
"[...] my future ex-wife, Lupita, I'm thinking about you."
The actress later addressed the rumors and revealed that Leto was on her speed dial. They had an intimacy beyond everything in the media because he embraced her as a newcomer in the industry.

In 2018, fans wished Nyong'o and Michael B. Jordan were dating after they looked cozy during the "Black Panther" press tour. When Jordan spoke about their rumored relationship, he said:
"Me and Lupita? I love her to death. Beautiful girl, very talented. People write their own narratives — I don't have any control over that."

Nyong'o and the singer Janelle Monáe met at the 2014 Met Gala and developed a close friendship. However, when the singer brought the actress up the stage in 2019, rumors began that they were an item.
Before bringing the actress on stage, Monáe introduced her as "my queen." In 2021, the singer ignited the rumors again. She posted a video of Nyong'o holding her from behind as they danced together.
Despite the numerous dating rumors, the actress never bothers to confirm or deny them. She would rather speak about her passions and projects.
