Ever since her breakthrough role in Phillip Noyce's 1989 thriller 'Dead Calm,' Australian actor Nicole Kidman has been dazzling audiences and Hollywood with her delicate beauty.

Kidman has lived under the pitiless scrutiny of public opinion for the last thirty-odd years. The press always speculated about her personal life, and the spotlight is now on Kidman's appearance.

Rumors abound, and in 2011, one claimed that Kidman had spent over $1 million in a total body refit. It was refuted by the actor, who denied having ever resorted to plastic surgery.

Kidman is adamant that she has not had herself altered or "improved" despite what the press or her fans might think.

Other claims had Kidman begging her husband, Keith Urban, to have surgery too. The rumors and the innuendoes are part and parcel of the level of celebrity that Kidman has achieved, and she's handled it gracefully.

The actor denied the surgery and denied using Botox in 2007. However, in 2013 she did admit to using Botox. Kidman revealed that the procedure left her unable to move her face, and she vowed never to use it again.

What do Fans Think About Nicole Kidman's Looks?

While the rumor-mongers speculate, fans have been vocal about what they perceive as changes in their idol's appearance. In May 2022, Kidman posted a photo of herself on Instagram that raised a ruckus with her followers.

In the photo, Kidman is turned towards the camera, and her face appears unnaturally smooth, with the skin pulled tight over her jaw and cheekbones. Her eyelids seem puffy, and her eyes small. To some, she was nearly unrecognizable.

Hollywood's denizens yield to the knife in a frantic race against time, desperate to stay young for longer.

Fans reacted to the photo by sharing hundreds of comments on the post, protesting about what they perceived to be the actor's change in appearance. Some asked plaintively: "What happen to your face?"

While another commented: "It is such a shame that women in our business feel the need to destroy their faces in some attempt to stop time. The same fan advised: "Grow old gracefully, don't turn yourself into something unnatural."

What Does Nicole Kidman Say About her Beauty?

While fans show their disapproval at what they believe are surgical interventions, Kidman protests that her youthful looks have one source: great skincare and a healthy lifestyle. She stated:

"I am completely natural. I have nothing in my face or anything. I wear sunscreen, and I don't smoke. I take care of myself."

The only operation Kidman admits to was to her eyes. With Urban's encouragement, the actor, who has always been extremely shortsighted, underwent LASIK surgery in 2007 and now boasts 20/20 vision.

Kidman is adamant that she has not had herself altered or improved despite what the press or her fans might think, even though many of Hollywood's denizens have yielded to the knife in a frantic race against time. Even Kidman's ex-husband, Tom Cruise, is rumored to have had a nip and tuck.

Nicole Kidman Slams Ageists

Actors are desperate to stay young for longer, and the reason is easy to understand. The camera loves youth --or at least, the men behind the camera do.

As actors age, especially women, they are relegated by casting directors and producers to secondary roles. Women after 40 are no longer considered desirable. The blond bombshell becomes the blowsy matron overnight.

Kidman started her own production company and promotes projects she believes women want to see.

An Oscar and Emmy award winner like Kidman, who has repeatedly proved that she has always been more than a pretty face, is not exempt from discrimination in the age-obsessed industry.

Nicole Kidman on Turning 40 in Hollywood

Kidman spoke about the frustration of growing older in a world where women are attributed a 'sell-by' date. She said:

“I was frustrated—as so many women are in different careers—at the idea of being told, ‘Well, that’s it,' You’ve passed through that period where it’s all going to be fine and now you’re in your 40s we’re not interested."

Kidman noted that she stopped being cast in the top leading roles after she turned forty, around the time she gave birth to her oldest with Urban, daughter, Sunday.

The Oscar winner, considered one of her generation's most talented and versatile actors, found herself discriminated against by an industry that considers women irrelevant after a certain age.

Forever Nicole

Kidman solved the problem by starting her own production company and promoting projects she believed women wanted to see. She began making films she could star in without the approval of ageist Hollywood executives.

Despite the prevalent ageism, Kidman's career is on the upswing, and she garnered rave reviews for her part as Hugh Grant's bewildered wife in the dark and disturbing HBO thriller, "The Undoing," as well as her role as the mysterious guru in Hulu's "Nine Perfect Strangers."

Whatever her age, Nicole Kidman's tranquil bred-in-the-bone beauty illuminates the screen. We look forward to enjoying many more years of the Australian stunner's talents.
