The past year has been one of the most difficult for American Personality and Actress NeNe Leakes, and recently, things only got worse for the showbiz star. On October 10, 2022, NeNe took to her Instagram story to reveal one of the most devastating news.

According to the "Reality Housewives of Atlanta" star, her second son, Brentt, suffered congestive heart failure and a stroke at 23, two weeks prior.

NeNe made it known that she had wanted to share the news with the public when Brentt was feeling better, but she could not wait for fear of the wrong information hitting the internet.

The reality TV star abstained from sharing in-depth details about her son's health scare. However, NeNe described her son's present condition as scary, adding that the 23-year-old's speech was affected.

It was even more devastating for the mother of two as she struggled to think of the possible cause of the tragic incident. According to NeNe, Brentt neither took drugs nor alcohol.

But in a follow-up post, the onscreen revealed that her young son was mentally and emotionally exhausted in September 2022, as it was the first anniversary of his father's death. In her words (via NBC News):

"He was very close to his dad, and he's been super stressed out over it. I don't even know if that has anything to do with it at all."

But despite NeNe's suspicions, doctors were not convinced that stress was the cause of Brentt's stroke and heart failure. Besides suggesting stress, NeNe also mentioned that she had suffered blood clots in the past.

So, her son's tendency to inherit a congenital heart disease was high. Additionally, she noted that the doctors had ruled out Brentt's weight as an underlying factor in his health scare.

So, for now, the cause is yet to be identified. In the meantime, NeNe has revealed that the medical practitioners are still running some tests. Hopefully, the tests will answer the worrying mom's questions, and treatments for the underlying cause will begin.

NeNe can only remain by her son's side, giving him all the support he needs, while she grieves the loss of her longtime husband and Brentt's father, Gregg Leakes.

Inside NeNe and Gregg's Love Story/Gregg's Death

NeNe and Gregg first crossed paths in 1996 when the former worked as a dancer in an Atlanta club. For Gregg, it was love at first sight. He exchanged numbers with the actress, boldly telling NeNe he would marry her someday.

Undoubtedly, it was difficult to say goodbye to the love of her life, but NeNe took solace in the love they shared and the beautiful memories they created.

The following year, Gregg's words came true as the lovebirds walked down the aisle after dating for some months. In 1999, NeNe and her husband welcomed their son, Brentt.

For the next few years, everything went smoothly for the couple. However, in 2010, after over a decade of marital bliss, NeNe and Gregg announced their separation.

At the time, the latter claimed fame had gotten into his wife's head. On the other hand, the Reality TV star noted that she filed for divorce because Gregg was not treating her right, and she needed to teach him a lesson.

So, by September 2011, NeNe and Gregg had finalized their divorce. However, less than two years later, the lovebirds reconciled and would eventually get engaged again.

In 2013, five months after their engagement, the couple tied the knot for the second time. Following their second marriage, NeNe and Gregg were ready to grow old together, but sadly, their dream did not come to fruition.

In 2018, Gregg was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer. It was devastating news for the couple, but NeNe was determined to stay by her husband's side.

She supported Gregg throughout his treatments, and with time, he got better, eventually going into remission. But sadly, the good news did not last for long. In June 2021, after two years in remission, the colon cancer returned and was worse.

Gregg was given only a few months to live, and NeNe knew she had to make her husband's final moments the best. So, the actress spent more time with Gregg and created beautiful memories.

Unfortunately, on September 1, 2021, the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star's husband passed away at his Atlanta home, surrounded by his wife, children, and loved ones. A few weeks after Gregg's death, NeNe spoke about her husband's demise and recalled his final days. In an interview with People, she said:

"The last five days before his passing was really beautiful. All of his children were there. His best friends were there. Our closest friends were there. We all sat with him around the clock. We talked a lot and made peace with what was happening [sic]."

Additionally, NeNe made it known that before Gregg died, his last words to her were:

"I'm not going to leave you. God is going to bless you."

Undoubtedly, it was difficult to say goodbye to the love of her life, but NeNe took solace in the love they shared and the beautiful memories they created.

NeNe had initially put the home up for sale in September 2021 at $4 million. The following month, the listing amount dropped to $3.8 million, then in November, it moved further to $3.5 million. After being on the market for about four months, NeNe finally sold the property at $2.65 million.

Despite how low the sale price might have been, NeNe got the closure she needed. The memories she made with Gregg in the mansion will always be a part of the actress.
