"Hi, I just got to Ft. Myers with some food and supplies for those who were affected by the hurricane, and if you do want to help, you just contact volunteerflorida.org," Travolta said in a video.
The "Hairspray" star recorded himself while standing in front of a plane with volunteers loading goods into a truck. Per AP, Travolta was among those taking part in rebuilding efforts.
Approximately 111 people lost their lives in the aftermath of the natural disaster, including three people in Cuba, five in North Carolina, and one in Virginia.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said leaders in Panama City would be involved in the restoration efforts at places heavily affected by Hurricane Ian:
"They're going to come down on the ground, they're going to inspect, and then they're going to offer some advice to the local officials here in Lee County, Fort Myers Beach, and other places."
Apart from lending a helping hand amid the natural disaster, Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, always helped out while doing charity work together.
Preston’s Heartbreaking Death – Travolta’s Tributes to Her
Preston sadly died from breast cancer in July 2020 at age 57 and left her husband a single father to their two children. The pair welcomed three kids within their marriage, two sons, Benjamin and Jett, and a daughter named Ella.
Unfortunately, the couple's eldest child Jett died after suffering a seizure in January 2009 at age 16. Per E! News Online, Travolta paid tribute to the mother of his kids in May 2022 on a poignant Mother's Day.
He began the post with the words: "From me To you," accompanied by a video montage with a background song, "That Face" by Barbara Streisand.
The heart-warming clip included family photos, memories from holiday celebrations, the couple's 1987 wedding day, joint magazine covers, and their special moments with their brood. Travolta signed off the video with the words, "With all my love, Johnny."
In October 2021, the father of three honored his beloved wife on what would have been her 59th birthday by posting a picture of the model on Instagram. Travolta expressed in the caption that he and the kids long for and adore the "Welcome to Hollywood" star:
"Happy Birthday Kelly. We miss and love you very much."
Per Pop Sugar, Travolta also showers his support for his children on social media by constantly sharing their achievements and glimpses of their holidays.
In September 2022, his daughter Ella made her New York Fashion Week debut in the Karl Lagerfeld runway show, and he hyped her accomplishment on Instagram, writing:
"So proud of Ella's debut at fashion week in New York City!"
Ella has also returned the favor by praising her dad online and penned a heartfelt message about him in a Father's Day post in June 2022.
The California native said her father is intelligent, polite, and has taught her many of life's "lessons" while expressing gratitude for everything he does:
"Happy Father's Day to the smartest, kindest, most generous man I know. Just being yourself, you have taught me the most important life lessons. Thank you for everything you do and for being my friend. I love you, daddy."
Meanwhile, Travolta has openly talked about being there for the kids amid the absence of his wife of 28 years. On a 2021 episode of "Hart to Heart," Travolta revealed that his youngest son Benjamin has previously expressed fears of losing him too because he lost his mother:
"[Benjamin] said to me once, 'Because mom passed away, I'm afraid you're going to.' I said, 'Well, it's a very different thing. Nobody knows when they're going to die or when they're going to stay.'"
The "Grease" star further explained that his older brother and mother died at a young age but that it was not written in stone how sooner or later one died in their lifetime. "I could die tomorrow. You could. Anybody can. So let's look at it; it's part of life," Travolta told his son.
Travolta Continues to Honor Preston’s Memory through Charity Work
The doting dad spoke candidly about grieving in April 2021 during an interview with Esquire Mexico and said the mourning process was "very personal," adding that overcoming the death of a loved one was the path to finding healing.
Travolta explained that people experience grief differently. He said people must understand that those going through such need "space to live it" and do not need others to compare their journeys with theirs.
Nonetheless, the New Jersey native has kept Preston's memory alive by keeping her charity work going. Per E! News Online, in July 2012, the couple appeared in Florida at a private benefit screening of his film, "Savages," to raise money for numerous charities, including a college scholarship in memory of their son, Jett.
Before the event began, Preston and Travolta hosted a private reception for donors at the Ewers Century Center on the grounds of the College of Central Florida. Eventgoers revealed guests had to pay $150 for a meet-and-greet with the Hollywood couple.
Charities that benefitted from the said occasion include the Never Say Never Foundation, which helps children who lost their limbs, the Boys and Girls Club of Ocala, and the College of Central Florida Foundation's Jett Travolta Scholarship Fund, among others.
Per BBC, Travolta donated $3.8 million to the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund during his visit to South Africa in June 2010. The "Pulp Fiction" star, who met, sand, and danced with the kids supported by the foundation, urged fellow Hollywood elites to contribute to Mandela's legacy.
The late former President of South Africa set up the fund to provide various services for kids, including children of refugees and street children. At the time, the foundation planned on building a children's hospital in Johannesburg.
Mandela once encouraged people to protect the future generation. Meanwhile, Travolta, who visited the country alongside his pregnant wife then, said, "Children keep you humble. Children keep you grounded."
