Carly spoke openly about the loss of her siblings to People following the news of their passing, saying their departure saddens her:
"I am filled with sorrow to speak about the passing of Joanna and Lucy Simon. Their loss will be long and haunting."
The New York native expressed that despite the sad feeling, she could not grieve for her loved ones "without celebrating" their "incredible lives."
"We were three sisters who not only took turns blazing trails and marking courses for one another. We were each other's secret shares. The co-keepers of each other's memories," said Carly.
Per the outlet, the Simon sisters' deaths were confirmed to Deadline on October 21, 2022. Carly stated she could not describe the overwhelming feeling of realizing that she is now the "only remaining direct offspring" of her parents, Andrea and Richard Simon.

Carly's Kids & Former Spouses
Carly is a twice divorcee. She and her first husband, fellow singer-songwriter James Talyor wed in 1972, and according to People, the pair dubbed the "it" couple of the 1970s and early '80s.
Taylor and Carly were married for eleven years before their marriage ended in a messy divorce in 1983. However, in November 2015, more than three decades after the couple's split, Carly admitted that she was still madly in love with the guitarist – although he felt differently about her.
She revealed that they were not on speaking terms but despite that, "I still want to heal him, I still want to make him all right. And I love him so much," said the "You're So Vain" hitmaker.

The mother of two shared that despite being ill-treated by the father of her kids, which pains her, she remains "incredibly" loyal to him.
Carly discussed her tumultuous relationship with Taylor in her memoir, "Boys in the Trees," and divulged the writing process that allowed her to reassess their connection. She said she realized that she could "love" another person and not have the love reciprocated.
The "Coming Around Again" singer revealed she was still in the dark regarding why Taylor was not speaking to her.

The former couple welcomed two kids together, daughter Sally and son Ben, before parting ways due to Taylor's heroin addiction and extramarital affairs from both parties.
Carly revealed that she fell in love with Taylor way before they met. She saw his photo on the cover of TIME Magazine while taking a stroll home with her sibling.
The children's author disclosed that upon seeing the picture, she instantly told her sister that she would "marry" Taylor someday, which materialized:
"I saw his picture on the cover of TIME magazine when I was walking home with my sister, and I said, 'I'm going to marry that man.' And that really happened."
Following their separation, Carly confessed that she tried to numb the pain by resorting to drugs, but her experience was not that extreme in that she became addicted. Notably, she said Taylor's addiction was not the main reason they called it quits, sharing that many other factors were involved.
Even though Carly and the six-time Grammy Award winner parted ways on bad terms, she still resides in the home they once shared in Martha's Vineyard, which initially belonged to him.
Per the New York Times, Taylor was only 22 years old when he purchased the 175 acres property with the money he made from his first record deal.
His former wife, Carly, has since named the compound Hidden Star Hill. The property comprises two barns, a horse shed, and a gazebo. The outlet reported in June 2018 that there were two miniature horses, two donkeys, five goats, and four dogs living on the grounds.

Carly was said to be sharing the space with her boyfriend of 12 years at the time, Richard Koehler, a surgeon. Her son Ben and his partner Sophie Hiller were also reported to be living next door.
Following her divorce from Taylor, Carly tied the knot again to a poet named Jim Hart in 1987. However, their marriage also ended in divorce in 2007 after he came out as a "gay" man. Still, she divulged they remain "great friends" after their split.
Besides Koehler, Carly has been involved romantically with some of Hollywood's famous men, including rocker Mick Jagger, Jack Nicholson, and Cat Stevens. Carly once revealed that she and actor John Travolta had a six-month affair and shared that he had been "more wonderful" to her than any of the other men she had previously met.
