As a senior citizen, people would expect Rutt Larsson to be spending time with her family in her Mjölby, Sweden home, but she isn't your regular grandmother. Larsson is an adventurous woman who believes age is just a number.

Besides planning to set a new world record, Larsson loves singing. She is part of a local choir and enjoys singing songs to different tunes. Moreover, her family supports her in whatever she does.

The Grandmother

Larsson was born in 1918 and grew up in the same town where she currently lives with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her friends and family are aware of her positive outlook on life and her adventurous nature.

In December 2021, Larsson followed one of her passions and gave a mindblowing performance on St. Lucia Day, wearing a crown of candles according to Swedish tradition. She became the oldest woman ever to perform. She said:

"There is something special in being the oldest one."

Passion for the Sky

Larsson had never tried skydiving or any related sport until she turned 90. She went paragliding on her 90th birthday, which piqued her interest in similar sports.

Then their airplane took off, and after reaching the required height above sea level, Larsson was asked to jump wearing her parachute.

After experiencing the thrill of paragliding, Larsson tried parachuting and ballooning and loved every bit of it. She never thought flying like a bird would impress her so much.

The First Experience

In 2020, Larsson tried parachuting for the first time and loved the experience. Floating above the ground made the then-102-year-old woman realize she wanted to set a world record for being the oldest person to try this sport.

With the help of her family, Larsson researched and discovered that the female record holder for the oldest tandem parachute jump was Kathryn "Kitty" Hodges from the U.S. Larsson said:

"There was an American woman who beat the record, so I had to beat hers."

The World Record

The competitive senior citizen wanted her name in the Guinness World Record and didn't hesitate to experience the adrenaline rush by jumping off a plane at 103 years and 259 days.

Hodges became the record holder in 2019 when she was 103 years and 129 days old, and Larsson broke her record on May 29, 2022. She recalled it was a sunny day with clear skies, perfect for her parachuting experience. She said:

"You get new strength when summer comes."

Cheering for the Grandma

Multiple officials from news outlets were there, along with Larsson's family members, waiting for her to land on the ground. Her daughter, Ulla, had bought new shoes for her, while her granddaughter cheered for her, looking towards the sky.

the media. The media outlets made a video of her entire parachuting attempt, which later went viral on social media.

The happy-go-lucky grandmother was seen smiling in the short clip, where she was taken into an airplane. Parachute expert Joackim Johansson accompanied her in the aircraft.

Then their airplane took off, and after reaching the required height above sea level, Larsson was asked to jump wearing her parachute. Unlike most women her age, she jumped out of the plane and enjoyed her free fall.

Her family and media officials had their eyes on the sky. They were excited to see Larsson heading for the ground wearing a blue parachute. As she landed, everyone cheered and clapped for her while the officials from Guinness World Records recorded her swift descent.

Once Larsson landed, the media officials asked her about her experience. When was asked to describe what she saw from up there, she said, "Nowadays, I don't see so well, but it felt good."

An Inspirational Story

Larsson said she would have a little cake to celebrate being the new record holder of the oldest woman to complete the tandem parachute jump. What she did was something not many senior citizens would enjoy doing.
