Mel Brooks Is Still Alive at 96 and Busy with His Work

At 96, Mel Brooks is alive and actively working, as seen from the recent credits he received in a movie that premiered in July 2022. He is also active on social media, promoting his memoir, now available in paperback.

Mel Brooks is one of Hollywood's most prolific and respected actors, producers, directors, and writers. Born on June 28, 1926, he got his writing break at 24 and has not stopped creating.

However, because there has been very little news about his life and work recently, some people are starting to wonder if he is okay. Thankfully, he is very much alive at his age, still writing, acting, and more.

Mel Brooks Became a Guest Star in an Animated TV Series

In October 2022, the "Little Demon" series announced on Twitter that Brooks voiced one of their characters. The handle tweeted:

"He's got a lot of hands and was conceived in a mud pit. Meet Milipede, voiced by Mel Brooks in tonight's season finale episode of #LittleDemonFX."

The series is about the devil, played by Danny DeVito, who realizes that he has a daughter, Chrissy Feinberg, played by his real-life daughter, Lucy DeVito, after having an affair with a human, Laura Feinberg played by Aubrey Plaza.

Mel Brooks Is Actively Promoting His Memoir

When he is not writing scripts or acting, Brooks is writing books. He is currently actively promoting his memoir "All About Me!" On November 2, 2022, the 96-year-old author shared the news on social media.

Yes, he has a social media page at his age. In his tweet, he revealed that his 2021 memoir is now available in paperback. He tweeted:

"Today is the day! My autobiography ALL ABOUT ME! is available in paperback. Not only are all the wonderful words and pictures still there, but now it is light enough to carry it with you wherever you go."

Brooks' memoir gives a first-hand insight into his life as he wrote stories about his career for the first time. The writer wrote about his life from when he was a kid to when he received the National Medal of Arts.

He shared how he has used humor to navigate Hollywood, his fear of falling, his parents, the death of his father, his time in the Army during World War II, and more. However, he never wrote about his first marriage.

Mel Brooks Took Part in Creating a Cartoon Movie

In addition to writing, Brooks took part in creating "Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank." He announced on Twitter that the brand-new animated film premiered in theaters on July 15, 2022.

Besides being one of the scriptwriters, he voiced the character The Shogun and was one of the executive producers. The computer-animated martial arts comedy film is a loose remake of "Blazing Saddles."

The movie tells the story of a hound in a cat town as the cats needed a hero to defend them from an evil villain planning to erase their village's existence on the map.

"Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank" also stars Djimon Hounsou, Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Yeoh, Ricky Gervais, Aasif Mandvi, George Takei, Gabriel Iglesias, Kylie Kuioka, and more.

Although Brooks is still alive and active, he once admitted that it was hard to keep going, especially when his good old friends were dead.

In 2005, his wife, Anne Bancroft, died, and his best friend, Carl Reiner, died in 2020 at 98. While he said he would miss his wife's love and support, the writer also said he would miss his adventures with his friends.

Since his wife's death from uterine cancer in 2005, Mel Brooks also revealed that his life had not been the same as it still hurts. He would still watch her movies if they showed them on TV but would never deliberately put one on to watch.
