Ariana Grande was born in Florida, on June 26, 1993, the daughter of Joan Grande and Edward Butera. Joan was born in June 1957 and had her first child in 1983, Ariana's only sibling, Frankie Grande.
At that time, Joan was married to a doctor, Victor Marchione, but the two split up in 1987. Not long after that, she met a graphic designer named Edward Butera in New York City and married him in 1992, and the newlyweds moved to Florida.
Joan's family owns the Florida-based Hose McCann Communications, and she is the CEO. Ariana spoke admiringly about her mother revealing that her mother is the CEO of a successful company that holds Defense contracts.

After Edward and Joan divorced, Ariana became closer to her mother and grandmother. Over the years, Ariana has often alluded to Joan being a mother and father to her. The singer said:
"Falling out of touch with my dad. It's private, but it happened last year. It took me so long to be okay with it."
The distance between father and daughter widened when the two fell out for undisclosed reasons in 2014, even though the singer still sent him Father's Day shoutouts on Instagram. Since then, the two seem to have reconciled, and Edward has shown his love and admiration for his daughter.
