  • Former President Obama's daughters, Malia and Sasha, have lived most of their lives under the radar, but that is exactly how they prefer it.

  • Michelle raised the two to the best of her abilities but is aware of their individuality.

  • Even though they are now grown up, she continues to give them advice on important issues like choosing life partners.

Michelle Obama was never more proud of her daughters than when they told her they planned to move in together. However, a wisened parent, she knew to keep her excitement within herself to avoid spooking her daughters and making them change their minds.

Michelle feared they might decide the idea was terrible because she expressed too much happiness at the news. So she just commented on how interesting it was, seemingly uninterested. In truth, she feels great that her daughters have chosen to find solace in one another.

Malia, a TV writer, and her sister, Sasha, who still attends the University of Southern California, live together in an apartment in L.A. According to Michelle, they have made the place their own in every way with items they got from poking around yard sales and IKEA.

Both girls are turning out to be great women, and it is all thanks to their parents, who gave them a decent upbringing while allowing them to choose their paths.

Michelle Struggled to Bring Them to the World

It is not surprising that Michelle loves her daughters so much. Birthing them was no mean feat. Before her daughters came along, she had suffered an abortion and had been almost broken by the ordeal. She said:

"I felt like I failed because I didn't know how common miscarriages were because we don't talk about them. We sit in our pain, thinking that somehow we're broken."

Between ages 34 and 35, she realized that there was a thing like the "biological clock" and that egg production was not something her body could sustain forever. This is why she decided to get in-vitro fertilized to conceive her daughters.

Malia's boyfriend is a handsome music producer named Dawit Eklund, and he is just like Malia's father.

However, delivering them was just the start of the long journey of parenthood. After becoming a mom, Michelle's boss reacted badly to her family situation, which almost cost her a job. Still, she refused to back down, and he eventually capitulated the day she walked in wearing her nursing shirt to state her demands.

Motherhood has taught Michelle many things, especially how to let go. In a past interview, Michelle pointed out how parents tried to keep their kids safe even though life has other plans.

The kids still end up with bruises from rough plays and more as they grow older, and Michelle now knows that it is out of their control. The proud mother also praised her daughters for their resilience. It is one of the few attributes they share as sisters. According to Michelle, the two girls are both very different. She said:

"One speaks freely and often; one opens up on her terms. One shares her innermost feelings, and the other is content to let you figure it out."

Michelle does not play favorites; she believes neither's nature is better or worse. She is proud they have grown to become independent and compassionate women strong enough to walk their paths.

A Mother’s Advice

As kids grow older, it becomes harder for parents to influence their decisions; however, the best moms and dads gladly accept this change, strengthening their bonds with the kids.

Michelle's daughters are all grown up now, with one already working and the other soon to be done with University. They can now make decisions without their parents; however, these two girls still take their mom's advice.

Michelle says she has advised them on the subject of choosing a partner. She told them they needed to avoid looking for a man who would do all the work for them but instead should be hoping to find a man to do the work with them.

As far as Michelle is concerned, a deal breaker should be when one partner decides to play one role to the exclusion of all others. For the most part, her daughters seem to have taken her suggestion.

Sasha is reportedly in a relationship with Clifton Powell Jr., son of actor Clifton Powell and his wife, a successful businesswoman. Their relationship started after she left the University of Michigan for a course at USC, but they kept it secret until it was uncovered in April.

Clifton spent his high school years at Village Christian High School in San Fernando. In 2016, Clifton got in for a basketball scholarship; however, he later decided to focus on acting. The handsome man shares a close relationship with his father, who is known to gush over him on social media from time to time.

Malia's boyfriend is a handsome music producer named Dawit Eklund, and he is just like Malia's father, a man with one American and one African parent. He also reportedly looks like Barack and even has the same smoking habit the former president has.

Eklund is the son of retired State Department officer Jon Eklund, who was posted to several US embassies in Africa. His wife is an Ethiopian woman named Yeshi. Eklund is nine years older than Malia, who clocked 24 on July 4. The pair spend a lot of time together and have been seen several times together in public, looking very much in love.

Eklund seems to be Malia's second serious lover. The first is Rory Farquharson, and given how cozy she is with Eklund, it is assumed that her relationship with him has ended.

Both girls seem happy with their respective choices so far, and hopefully, it means Michelle might be getting grandkids and attending weddings in the nearest future. Both girls seem delighted with their choices, and Michelle could not be more satisfied.
