Kirk Hammett Divorced His First Wife after One of His Tours
Kirk's first marriage to Rebecca did not last because he focused entirely on his career and was constantly on tour with the band. He said:
"There were a lot of factors that contributed to my divorce [...] there was also being away for 12 weeks at a time in Europe and then going straight into an American tour with only eight days off in between. It wreaked havoc on that relationship."
His relationship with Rebecca began deteriorating as "Metallica" went on their "Damaged Justice" concert tour, which started on September 11, 1988.
By the end of the tour on October 8, 1989, they had split and finalized their divorce in 1991. Kirk finalized his divorce the same year his band released their fifth studio self-titled album.
The 13-track album, released on August 12, 1991, contained songs like the platinum-certified "Enter Sandman," a song Rina Sawayama covered in August 2021.
