Celine Dion has gotten slimmer in the past few years. Her appearance caused controversy among the public several times until she revealed how she had been diagnosed with an incurable disease. Doctors have told the legendary singer what to expect next.

After her longtime spouse, Rene Angelil, died in January 2016, Celine Dion's wardrobe experienced a revamp that had her wearing haute couture pieces, clothes she believes makes her look and, more importantly, feel attractive.

This happened around the same time Dion shed some pounds; however, that is a topic she never wants to discuss. The talented singer has grown tired of people talking about her dramatic weight loss.

In 2019, when people talked about how outlandish her fashion seemed and how slim she had become, she lashed out in self-defense, saying:

"Don't bother. Don't take a picture. If you like it, I'll be there. If you don't, leave me alone."

Despite how much chatter there was about her slimmer frame, Dion never came out publicly to declare how much weight she lost in the years since her husband died. However, she admitted feeling "strong" and "feminine."

Dion also claimed that genetics played a massive role in her slim figure. In response to claims she was anorexic, she once revealed in an interview that she had been "thin" all her life, coming from a family of slim people.

Aside from genetics, her dancing habits and life as a performer have also contributed. Dion believes dancing is encoded in her DNA and she has taken it as a hobby even off the stage. She has adopted ballet and admitted to doing it up to four times per week.

All the reasons she gave are enough to keep anyone fit. However, for those who expressed concern about her health back in 2019, she assured them that all was well after admitting she had gotten thinner.

The musician has admitted that she will continue to perform because it is something she loves and has done her entire life.

While some on social media have said that Dion "looks so dead," in her past interview with ABC, she stated that she feels more alive than ever.

The beautiful singer is well aware of how her body has been changing naturally with age. Still, she believes that her size has not radically changed from how she's always looked. She explained:

"When you go back, when I was 12 years old, my face was rounder because you have more fat when you're younger…But I've always been very thin."

Dion hears what people say about her; however, thanks to having spent years in the music industry, she knows how to handle getting trolled.

Incurable Disease

Now over 50, Dion has remained active in the music industry, going on tours and performing on stage as often as she could. Unfortunately, she will have to slow down and intends to, following a health announcement.

A few days ago, Dion revealed that she had been diagnosed with an incurable neurological disease known as stiff-person syndrome. It is a rare disease that causes muscle spasms that progressively increase over time.

Dion confessed that the diagnosis left her no choice but to postpone and cancel several planned concert engagements. In her Instagram post announcing her health battle, she wrote:

"I've been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it's been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I've been going through. It hurts me to tell you that I won't be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February."

Earlier in October, the singer had told her fans that she was having debilitating and persistent muscle spasms that saw her three kids, twins Nelson and Eddy and Rene-Charles joining hands to take care of her.

At the time, they had no idea what they were dealing with, and neither did her fans, who criticized her for how slim she looked.

Thanks to the diagnosis, she knows it is all because of the rare condition affecting the brain, spinal cord, and other central nervous system components.

More symptoms of the stiff-person syndrome include hyper-rigidity, aggravating pain, chronic anxiety, and muscle spasms capable of dislocating joints and breaking bones.

According to Dion, this affects her daily activities, which means she can't use her vocal cords like she used to. Thankfully, her family continues to care for her and has been making her happy.

For this year's Mother's Day, her three children put a smile on her face with a special cake to celebrate the occasion. Dion shared a photo of her three boys surrounding her as she held one of the candles from her cake.

Doctor Reveals What's Next

Dion's doctors have since revealed what her future would look like from a medical perspective, prompting the singer to postpone all her spring engagements in 2023 to 2024. A couple of her shows for summer, initially scheduled for May 31 to July 17, have been canceled.

Despite this, the singer assured fans she will be back to perform. “All I know is singing; it's what I've done all my life. And it's what I love to do the most," she said.

Dion is aware of how things look and how bad things could become; however, she revealed she is surrounded by able doctors and a loving family who want to see her improve. She remains hopeful that she will be able to sing again.

Dion now works closely with a sports medicine therapist daily to increase her strength and prepare her for future performances. Her fans hope her condition improves and can't wait to see her return on stage.
