A Kind-Hearted Soul

To share the genuine spirit of the most magical time of the year, Nate Eaton and Josh Johnson from East Idaho News decided to surprise a woman named Cathy. Hailing from Salmon, Idaho, Cathy has an enormous heart and has been anything but kind to the people she meets.

A Life Full of Struggles

Despite enduring a life of struggles, heartrending loss, and spine-chilling pain, Cathy always tries to stay strong for her loved ones. She was a mom of three children—two daughters and a son—and lost all of them in the most tragic events.

Her son passed away in a car crash, while her oldest daughter died in a motorcycle accident. Cathy's other daughter died from complications following a tragic road accident. But that wasn't all she experienced; she is a breast cancer survivor and raising her young grandchildren.

Cathy loves her grandkids with all her heart and soul. She selflessly stepped into being both their grandmother and mother, smothering them with tender care and affection.

A Loving Grandma & Caring Wife

The Salmon resident is loved and known by everyone in her community—mainly for her warm-heartedness and years of working at Steele Memorial Clinic. Her job at the clinic was to take people's appointments, and many might recognize her voice on the other end of the line.

In addition to raising her three teen granddaughters alone, Cathy also looks after her husband, who has an eye disease; often, she has to drive back and forth between Salmon and Idaho Falls for doctor's visits.

Her granddaughters are equally delightful, and after having experienced unlikely circumstances, the whole family could use a little uplifting this Christmas. So, to cheer them up and brighten their lives, Eaton and his crew showed up to give them a heartwarming surprise.

The Most Wholesome Christmas Surprise

One snowy day in December 2022, Cathy was returning from her husband's appointment at the doctor's when her hairdresser called and asked her for a favor. Because she couldn't say no, the Idaho woman instantly agreed and pulled over to pick something up for her hairdresser, not knowing it was all a ruse.

That was where Eaton saw her car parked and immediately showed up to share the holiday goodness. After greeting Cathy and her three granddaughters Libby, Molly, and Melissa, he handed them a few boxes to open, announcing that he was there on behalf of Secret Santa.

The family of four couldn't contain their excitement as they opened the boxes and found gifts worth $7,500 in total. The Christmas goodies included a $2,000 gift voucher for Fred Meyers, $5,000 worth of gas cards, $100 for the movies, hotel cards for $200, and $200 for dinner.

Grateful & Lost for Words

With the presents they received, Cathy and her grandchildren could embark on a Christmas shopping spree, enjoy their favorite movie on the big screen, eat at a lovely restaurant and never run out of gas for the next few years. It was everything and much more than they could have ever dreamed of.

Cathy was "beyond words" and could only think about how happy it would make her beloved grandchildren, who deserved a merry Christmas. Wrapping Eaton and his crew member, Johnson, in a warm hug, the older lady expressed:
