Reese Witherspoon, the face behind "Legally Blonde's" Elle Woods, has a doppelganger in her own family. Whenever the actress steps outside with her daughter, Ava Elizabeth Phillippe, onlookers swear the two are twin sisters.
Witherspoon is very much aware that Phillippe is her carbon copy, and she has said over the years that it's terrific to have a daughter that looks so much like her. Whenever people can't tell the difference between her and Phillippe, the famous mom feels young again.
However, Witherspoon is fully aware that it might not always be as entertaining of a situation for Phillippe. Being mistaken for her mother must become frustrating whenever Phillippe wants to go about regular daily business, but her mom commented:
"I'm so proud of her. She really rolls with it. I'm sure it's not easy looking exactly like your mother."
Luckily, Phillipe has a supportive mom who understands her predicament. She also has a good friend she can always call for advice, seeing as she grew up looking exactly like her famous mother — Zoë Kravitz. And Witherspoon encourages her daughter to contact Kravitz whenever she needs a sympathetic ear. Witherspoon shared:
"We talk to Zoë Kravitz a lot. Because she and her mother look exactly alike, so whenever Ava is frustrated, I go, 'Call Zoë. Text Zoë. She knows what to talk about.' I mean, that's another mother-daughter combo that's like identical twins."
Witherspoon loves raising her kids, and she ensured that she taught her daughter to be an intelligent and driven person. She also made sure she built a great relationship with her daughter. The two are close, and Witherspoon couldn't keep herself from crying when Phillippe left home for college.
Reese Witherspoon and Her Daughter Are Look-Alikes
As Witherspoon's daughter grew up, she started embracing the fact that she looks so much like her mom. Although some aspects of it are certainly still challenging, Phillippe has taken to joining Witherspoon at red-carpet events, and they often share photos together on Instagram.
Besides being a driven, active person, Witherspoon is also an involved mother.
But, the actress and her daughter aren't the first iterations of women in their family who could pass as twins. Witherspoon's own mom, Betty Reese, looks like the oldest in a trio of sisters. The "Just Like Heaven" star opened up about looking like her daughter and said they share a special bond:
"I do see the resemblance. I'm not sure what she thinks. I'm just 'Mom' to her. We're happy to share this wonderful experience. I really have a rich, personal relationship with my daughter."
On Twitter, followers and fans have shared photos of the mother-daughter pair in awe, commenting on their similarities in disbelief. One fan couldn't believe her eyes when she first saw a picture of the actress with her daughter, and she commented in shock:
"Reese Witherspoon & her daughter. My brain can't handle this."
Another fan posted a close-up of Witherspoon and Phillippe and said, "Can we talk about Reese Witherspoon and her daughter!!!" One fan jokingly suggested that Phillippe looks similar enough to her mother for the pair to pass as NFTs.
Christmas Tradition Keeps Them Close
Besides being a driven, active person, Witherspoon is also an involved mother. She loves being there for her kids whenever they need her, and she has always tried to set the best possible example for them. And, although her children are growing up and leaving the nest, they all still have family traditions that keep them close.
Witherspoon shared that they tend to focus on food whenever the Christmas holidays roll around. In the past, they have always spent time in the kitchen, making Christmas-themed snacks. An all-time family favorite is, apparently, gingerbread houses. They also love caroling with the neighbors and get an Advent calendar every year.
Witherspoon said she has always believed in the importance of family traditions because they remind her family of all the years and good times they have spent together. Their traditions serve as reminders of the love they share as a family unit.
The "Pleasantville" star posted a photo of her next to an elaborate gingerbread house in December 2020. She was fully kitted out in a white, green, and red festive sweater as she leaned on a marble kitchen counter next to a lovely gingerbread house.
The holiday treat's roof was made by painting a fish scale pattern on the top of the base structure in white frosting. Little red candies served as festive decor on the very peak and the skirtings of the roof, while the pillars on the corners of the house were made from red-and-white candy sticks.
The windows even had tiny shutters that opened outwards. These were also decorated with swirling frosting patterns and candy embellishments. In front of the house, colored gummy candies topped off a gingerbread fence while the whole thing stood on a bed of frosting to simulate snow.
The family had obviously put a lot of love and effort into the adorable creation. Witherspoon captioned the post by saying building the holiday treat with her kids is one of her favorite holiday traditions. She jokingly added, "Well... ok... we mostly just eat the candy," and asked her fans what they enjoy doing over the holidays.
