Shania Twain's Son Eja Lange Helped Her Find a Producer & Shares Musical Ideas with Her

Eja Lange's mother, musical legend Shania Twain, said her only son doesn't have much of an extroverted personality, but he definitely followed in her footsteps. Although the pair work on "different systems," they've been exchanging musical ideas since Eja was a teenager.

Eja Lange, Shania Twain's first and only son, was born into affluence, but his mother did her best to instill gratitude and humility into his character. When he took his first breath, it was in a foreign country, and his parents had already picked his name before they knew his assigned gender.

His mother kept him hidden from the spotlight, with only a few throwback pictures posted occasionally. As he grew older, it seemed he preferred to maintain that privacy as an adult.

The pop-country singer's adoration for Eja is always evident as she often raves about his talent. However, she has also been frank about her parenting methods; now, Eja runs his own household in Los Angeles.

Eja, whose first name is pronounced "Asia," independently pursues music and once helped Shania find a producer for one of her albums. According to Shania, his music taste is broad, but he may take the creator route in the industry, like his dad, producer John "Mutt" Lange.

When Eja's parents separated, he was only nine years old. His mom released a memoir in 2011, "From this Moment on," detailing a life she fiercely guarded against the public eye. There, Shania talked about how her ex-husband's betrayal tore their family apart and how it was something she never wished for young Eja.

Eja Lange's Privacy Has Been Violated since His Birth

Although his mother protected him from the prying eyes that stalked her, it didn't stop them from trying to capture even the most intimate moments between them. Eja was born on August 12, 2001, in Switzerland.

His parents had been contemplating where they wished to settle down while Shania had embarked on her "Come on Over" tour. They eventually bought a French chateau-style home on the Swiss Riviera before welcoming their son at a Swiss hospital.

During his delivery, Eja's father cut his umbilical cord and bathed the youngster in a basin beside his mom. Afterward, Shania cradled her baby boy and breastfed him. She called him their "little angel" in her memoir, perhaps alluding to his second name D'Angelo.

Eja's first name was derived from Hebrew and meant "the Lord is my God." Shania thought the phrase sounded like "the saying of an angel," and she and John liked its ring. While in the hospital, Shania had her friend, Marie-Anne, translate her communication to the hospital staff since none spoke English.

Although birthday gifts were out of the question, Eja's parents did allow a maximum of three presents on Christmas.

Afterward, her sister, Carrie, and nephew visited to spend time with her. As a newborn, Eja would enjoy strolls by a lake with his mom, aunt, and cousin. Periodically, Shania stopped to nurse him, and Carrie would try and protect her from potentially lurking paparazzi.

Shania assured Carrie that people in Switzerland didn't pay much attention to her, so there was nothing to worry about. However, contrary to Shania's belief, a photographer was lurking; they managed to snap a photo of her burping Eja on one of their walks.

The picture soon surfaced in the media, shared through tabloids. Shania wondered if the photographer had taken pictures of her exposed breast while she nursed Eja or if they'd missed the moment. Still, the invasive shot served as a "disturbing reminder" that she never knew when she was being watched.

When Eja was a few months old, his mother would take him to the studio to record on some nights. He would sleep in his carriage beside her, lulled by his mother's voice while she sang. Shania remembered those times fondly as she nostalgically recounted:

"Occasionally, he'd chirp or squeak or sigh in his sleep, and it would leak into the mic, so I'd have to do another take. But how cool was it to be a new mom and a recording artist at the same time."

She added that bouncing back into her career while navigating motherhood made her feel strong and capable. As Eja grew older, Shania ensured that he learned responsibility by giving him household duties. She thought John was great with Eja, and they were "good parents."

Shania Twain Does Not Spoil Her Son

In 2018, Shania revealed that she only ever baked a cake for Eja on his birthdays – no presents. The singer explained that she was careful not to give Eja everything he wanted, and it became the only thing he expected come August 12 every year.

Although birthday gifts were out of the question, Eja's parents did allow a maximum of three presents on Christmas. Other people also sent him gifts, as Shania said, but if he wasn't using them after the first month, she told him to donate them to charity.

It was her approach to building well-roundedness, humility, and honesty in his character. When it came to household duties, Eja enjoyed cooking, but he didn't like cleaning up his toys. Still, his mother ensured that he took up the responsibility.

Eja Lange Shares Musical Ideas with His Mom

Eja has been exposed to music since he was a baby, and his taste has broadened. As a writer and creator of music, his mother shared that he idolized German film score composer Hans Zimmer. However, he also listened to EDM and other popular genres.

Shania admired Eja's work ethic and enjoyed watching him pursue his passion. She revealed that she and the 21-year-old regularly exchanged musical ideas. However, the process sometimes got complicated because they used different systems – he used synthesizers, and she used the guitar, among other tools.

Shania hinted that she and Eja might create something for the world to hear someday. When he was just 15, he helped her find a producer for her 2017 album "Now." She admitted that she was glad he didn't want to be a performer because of how taxing the job was. But if that's the route he later chose, she would still fully support him.

Shania Twain Would "Never Choose" for Her "Son's Family to Be Broken"

In 2008, infidelity allegations against Shania's ex-husband arose, accusing the producer of an extra-marital affair with her closest friend Marie-Anne. The couple went their separate ways a few months later, with their divorce finalizing in 2010.

Shania struggled gravely to come to terms with the betrayal. The singer even lost her voice after developing a throat condition called dysphonia that caused her vocal cords to tighten involuntarily.

She isolated herself in her Swiss mansion for some time until she sought healthy ways to release her anguish. Eja's presence also helped keep her distracted from too much self-indulgence as she processed the "death" of her marriage.

Still, considering her tumultuous upbringing, Shania never wanted her family to fall apart. She tried her best to keep it together, even after her current husband, Marie–Anne's ex-husband, Frédéric Thiébaud, delivered the heartbreaking news of their partners' unfaithful behavior.

Eja Lange Already Owns His Own House

Eja's been living independently in his $1.8 million Tinseltown home in Los Angeles since 2020. However, he has guarded his privacy. As he furthers his musical career, he is yet to join the social media scene as he currently has no official social media pages.
