Sherrod Moore Died before He Got to Know His Son Shemar
Sherrod Moore is the father of Emmy Award-winning actor Shemar Moore. Sherrod has endured various tribulations in his lifetime, creating a lengthy silence between him and his movie-star son.
Sherrod's son is an actor who has plastered his name across Hollywood with roles in some of America's most-watched TV shows. According to one of his sons' posts on Instagram, Sherrod was a U.S. Army veteran in his day who broke the boundaries of racial constraint by marrying a white woman.
His son grew up in the custody of his wife, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and sadly succumbed to the ills of her disease in February 2020, a month after his death. His son then established a company called Baby Girl LLC, and its proceeds go towards helping people fight multiple sclerosis.
Sherrod Moore Left His Son, Shemar Moore, to Be raised by His Ex
Sherrod, an African American, went beyond the boundaries of the societal constructs surrounding him during a time when Interracial marriages were frowned upon. He married a Caucasian woman named Marylin Joan Wilson, and they welcomed their baby boy on April 20, 1970.
They named him Shemar, a combination of Sherrod's first three letters and Marylin's (She + Mar). He was born in Oakland, California, and as much as his parents were revolutionists in their union, Sherrod did not stay for too long, leaving his ill wife to raise his son alone. Shemar explained:
"I'm an only child raised by a single mom, and I really tip my cap to her because all my life, she was my mentor and my hero. We tell each other that we were at the front of the line when they were handing out mothers and sons. She always was trying to save the world. She was trying to save the neighborhood."

Sherrod Moore Reconciled with Shemar, but He Kept Him at a Distance
Sherrod's wife and child lived in Denmark and Bahrain during the first six years of the actor's life, spending three years in each of those countries. His ex-wife moved them out to protect their somewhat unacceptable family during widespread racial unrest in the USA.
Sherrod was an "inconsistent" father when Shemar was a child. In a Larry King interview, the actor explained that his father was not very good to his mother and that she separated from him when he was still a baby. However, the actor disclosed that his father came back into his life, but on his terms.
Although Sherrod was arrested for four years, his son still cared for him, ultimately closing the gap between them in recent years. The "S.W.A.T." star mentioned that he bought Sherrod a house to keep him safe when he needed assistance. In 2017, he shared a tribute to his dad on Father's Day.
Sherrod Moore Passed Away while His Son Still Had Regrets
Sherrod eventually got a chance to reconnect with his son after many years. However, his son revealed that their reconnection was on his terms. In 2020, Sherrod's life ended; his son announced this via an Instagram post that displayed regret and a desire to spend more time with the army veteran.
Later that year, the actor shared a photo of Kamala Harris at a conference with a touching caption detailing feelings of pride seeing a mixed-race woman in a strong political position. He extended words of encouragement for people to vote for candidates they see fit before an introspective reflection about Sherrod. He said:
"My father was not there for me or my mother.. but he is, was, and always will be my only father who, without either of them, I would not have MY LIFE."
Three years after Sherrod's death, the actor hosted a gender reveal for his very first child. He invited his family and friends to the colorful event in his backyard, anticipating the arrival of his heir on February 8, 2023. His girlfriend Jesiree Dizon has a child from a previous relationship.
They chartered a helicopter to release colored smoke that would signify the baby's gender. The smoke released was pink, clarifying that Shemar would welcome a February Aquarius daughter. He shared a video on Instagram where he speaks about how proud his mother would be.
Although Sherrod could not maintain his diverse family in the 1970s, his son went on to find himself and establish a stellar record in the American film industry with Marilyn's support and guidance. Today his son is counting the days to his impending fatherhood and the extension of the Moore family name.
Hollywood has quite a few mixed-race personalities and entertainers who have trailblazed their path in the industry. Eric Andre is half black and half Jewish; "Avatar: The Way of Water" star who portrays the character Tsireya, Bailey Bass; and Troian Bellisario, Sean Murray's mixed-race sibling, Troian Bellisario.
