Hollywood couple Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman's romance was rocky initially. She once revealed that she had to wait for him to get the hint that she liked him.

When the actress appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in February 2017, she recalled her first meeting with the musician and revealed he failed to call her for months.

"I had such a crush on him, but he was not interested in me. He did not call me for four months," Kidman disclosed. She met Urban at the G'Day LA event in 2005.

In July 2018, the guitarist got candid about why he took his time to show interest in his future wife, admitting he did not think he was good enough for her. The Country Music Award winner noted that it was not a sad story about his reluctance to contact her and explained he met her unexpectedly but was still reserved:

Urban explained that someone had given him Kidman's contact details, and he had them in his pocket all the time. The songwriter hesitated to call his potential love interest because she could have answered the phone, and he would not have anything to say.

However, it was more than his nerves that made him worry. Urban revealed he was not in a suitable head space when he met Kidman and never believed she would fall for him.

Despite the doubt, Urban managed to get the courage to call Kidman, and she picked up the phone. They spoke continuously, and from there on, it was smooth communication from both parties.

Their connection developed because of their constant communication, and he decided to make a bold move on her "38th birthday." Kidman recalled in 2019 that Urban came to her New York residence "at 5. a.m. on my stoop," holding "gardenias." At that moment, it dawned on her that he could be a potential husband:

"That is when I went, ‘This is the man I hope I get to marry.'"

Urban then took her to Woodstock, New York, at the site of the 1969 music festival for a getaway. They rode a motorbike for the trip, and she loved it (My kind of guy!" she said). The pair have been together ever since.

Of their chemistry, "The Big Little Lies" star said they had strong feelings for each other. At that period, Kidman sincerely believed that Urban was the one for her.

That said, the couple tied the knot a year later, in 2006, and had a romantic ceremony in Manly, Australia. They have since settled in Nashville, where they are raising their brood.

The lovebirds have two kids, and their first child, daughter Sunday, was born in July 2008. Their second daughter, Faith, arrived via surrogate in December 2011.

Kidman & Urban's Marriage Nearly Ended

Although Kidman and Urban have been married for nearly 20 years, their union almost ended right after it began. Within four months of matrimony, Urban's past issues with drugs and alcohol became a big problem for the pair.

The singer went to rehab twice and relapsed. His wife took it upon herself to stage an intervention the same year they married, and he left home for three months. Urban returned sober and became determined to turn his life around.

Moreover, he felt remorse for what he put his spouse through and said it was by grace that their marriage succeeded following that challenging period. Following the ordeal, he could finally "shake off the shackles of addiction."

The four-time Grammy Award winner reflected on his past drinking habits in June 2016 and admitted that he could not "stop" drinking. He would sleep for hours and "go at it again, drinking to get the edge off." He thought he might die from his addiction, but that did not stop him from giving in because he did not "care" about the consequences.

In addition, seeing that Kidman played a crucial role in his recovery, Urban said crossing paths with her and eventually marrying her "wasn't life-changing, it was life-beginning," adding:

"It was literally like, ‘Okay, now life starts.’"

The Couple Now Lives a" Simple" Life in Nashville

Since getting sober, Urban has gotten accustomed to praying every morning. His life has become better, and he even has a routine.

Living at his Nashville mansion with his family, he wakes up daily with a prayer, makes breakfast for the kids, and drops them off at school.

Urban and the mother of his children have been married for 16 years. Kidman once said that when she is free from work, she knows how to shut off work mode wholly, and the same applies to her husband.

She added that they built a "good life in Nashville" that is easy-going, serene, and full of growth because they have worked hard to have it that way.

Moreover, she and her spouse still seem happily in love. When they marked their 13th wedding anniversary in June 2019, the "Somebody Like You" singer called his beautiful wife "Babygirl" on an Instagram post tribute.

Urban used the same moniker in June 2022 when Kidman celebrated her birthday. He posted a picture of him kissing her forehead and wrote: "Happy birthday, baby girl."

The thirteen-time CMA Award winner called the producer by the nickname when they celebrated their anniversary in June 2021: "Happy anniversary, baby girl," he penned.

In June 2021, Urban shared a photo of him and Kidman leaning into each other and smiling under helium balloons while holding flowers. He captioned his post: "Happy birthday, baby girl!!!!"

He commemorated the couple's sixteenth wedding anniversary in June 2022 alongside a snapshot of him and his wife sporting sunglasses. "Happy anniversary," wrote Urban alongside a string of heart emojis.
