Marcia Harvey Has Mostly Stayed Out of Spotlight - Facts about Her

Marcia Harvey is the media mogul and presenter Steve Harvey's ex-wife and mother of three of his children, and she married him when he was a struggling comedian.

Before he became rich and famous, Steve Harvey was an insurance salesman, was married, and was the father of three. His then-wife was Marcia Harvey, and by the time he was a star, they were divorced.

Marcia Harvey raised her three children after the split and has kept a low profile, unlike her ex-husband. Nearly thirty years after her divorce from one of America's most famous men, Marcia lives an intensely private life.

Steve Harvey married Marcia in 1981 on Valentine's Day, and they welcomed twin daughters, Brandi and Karli, in 1982. But Steve had a dream, and he was an ambitious man. He worked as a salesman, but he wanted to be a comedian. He said:

"I'm married, I have twins. I'm supposed to provide for them, but I had to take this chance."

While his days were spent working, his nights were spent at comedy clubs, honing his craft, while Marcia stayed home with the children. In 1991, Marcia and Steve Harvey had a son, Broderick Harvey Jr, but the marriage was already on the rocks.

Steve left and would later reveal in his autobiography that he was practically homeless and living in his car. In 1994 the divorce was final, and Martia was left to raise their thirteen-year-old daughters and two-year-old son alone.

Marcia Can Hardly Be Found on Social Media

While her children have Instagram accounts that share photos and glimpses into their lives, Marcia Whitman Harvey has no social media presence. Marcia's children share pictures of her and praise her, but they never tag her.

The hardest part of Marcia and Steve's divorce was how it affected their children.

Marcia does share her thoughts and feelings, but it is through the written page. She is a published author, like her ex-husband, and has three books to her credit: "Marcia: Eyes To The Soul," "Marcia: Poems From The Heart," and "Marcia: Thoughts From My Mind."

Marcia Started a "Trend" for Her Ex Steve Harvey

Macia was the first of Steve's wives, and two years after their divorce; he married again to Mary Lee Shackelford. The two had a son, Wynton Harvey, born in 1997, and divorced in 2005.

Steve married again in 2007 to Marjorie Bridges-Woods and adopted her three children, Jason, Morgan, and Lori. Curiously, all three of Steve's wives' names start with "Mar," a strange coincidence. Marcia seems to have created a trend for Steve. The comedian commented on his divorces:

"If you've never failed, what do you know? You know nothing. You have to get a divorce to find the right chick."

Marcia Became a Single Mom of 3 after the Divorce

The hardest part of Marcia and Steve's divorce was how it affected their children. Karli ad Brandi were teens and were devastated. For years after the divorce, their relationship with their father was strained, and they were closer to their mother. Karli wrote:

"I'll always love my momma, she's my favorite girl! My first teacher. My healer when I was hurt. My counselor when I was troubled and my biggest cheerleader when I needed a push!"

Years later, Brandi and Karli rebuilt their bond with their father and told him they understood why he had left and admired the courage it had taken to make a new life for himself.

Things were more difficult for Broderick, a toddler, when Steve left. He spent most of his childhood seeing his father only sporadically. He admitted:

"I didn't really have my dad full-time in my life until I was 16."

Marcia Harvey has never spoken about her marriage of ill of the father of her children, even though it is known that Steve initiated his relationship with Mary lee before their divorce.
