Singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley died on January 12, 2023, at age 54, from a heart attack. Since then, more information has come to light regarding what may have caused her death.

A close source to the Presley family claimed the Tennessee native was on a medicated weight loss journey so that she could look her best self for her late father, Elvis Presley's movie release.

Until the week of her death, Lisa had made several public appearances promoting "Elvis," the biopic about her famous dad, which stars actors Austin Butler and Tom Hanks.

Two days before her untimely death, the Over Me" singer and her mom, Priscilla Presley, attended the Golden Globe Awards, where Butler bagged Best Actor for his portrayal of the King of Rock n Roll – and dedicated a speech to the mother-and-daughter duo.

Lisa also spoke to reporters at the event and was spotted unsteady and reportedly conversed "very slowly" in her final interview.

Following her passing, a spokesperson for the LA County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, Sarah Ardalani, revealed that her body had been "examined on January 14" and that her cause of death was "deferred." It means they had to run more tests to determine the cause.

Meanwhile, producer Charles Latibeaudiere revealed, "We have information that may explain her heart suddenly stopped beating."

Insiders disclosed that Lisa had plastic surgery two months before the Golden Globes and began taking weight loss medication.

As a result, the brown-haired beauty shed 40 to 50 pounds in the six weeks leading up to the award show – where she appeared feeble. It seems as though Lisa repeated the same fate as her father, Elvis, who gained a lot of weight before a similar death.

Lisa had struggled with drug and alcohol abuse over the years, and an addiction specialist, Dr. Drew Pinsky, who appears in a documentary about the star, discussed some observations from that evening:

"She was slurring her speech [at the awards show], she had drooping eyelids, she was unsteady on her feet... that's not normal for a woman who is otherwise healthy at her age."

Dr. Pinsky added that it was admirable for the mother of four to attend the award show but that it was alarming to see her that way.

"I wish that somebody had raised the alarm, though, based on how she was looking," said the medical professional.

Lisa Marie Worried About Her Health Because Her Father's Side Was Not Healthy

Lisa openly discussed her weight loss regime in March 2014 when she looked slimmed down and revealed she had finally discovered what worked for her:

"Eating clean and organic is best."

At the time, the doting mom divulged she consumed healthy foods such as fruits and vegetables, including almond milk and freshly made juices. In addition, she only ate "half of what I am given."

Moreover, Lisa walked for 30 minutes frequently and lifted weights with her then-husband, guitarist Michael Lockwood. She happily revealed her consistent efforts paid off:

"I'm at the weight I was at when I was a teenager. I love the way clothes fit right now."

Lisa disclosed that her father's side of the family is unhealthy as opposed to her mom's (her dad passed away at age 42) - and shared Elvis's relatives had a shorter life span than Priscilla's loved ones.

The pop-rock star explained that she needed to take action with her health and "play it safe and try to be as healthy as I can be."

Elvis Also Faced Weight Problems before His Death

Like his daughter, Elvis battled weight issues in his final years, shocking many with his dramatic physical transformation after picking on some weight. The actor relied heavily on prescription drugs and ate comfort food such as hamburgers and Southern-fried favorites.

Footage dating back to his final tour in 1977 displayed how much the singer's physical appearance differed from the earlier years. Even his former lover, songwriter Linda Thompson was taken aback by how different Elvis looked since the last time she saw him.

That said, there has been an ongoing debate about how the father of one's health declined and his untimely death in his forties. Contributing factors included indulgent diet, genetic health issues, and prescription drug abuse.

Growing up, young Elvis feasted on his mother's tasty deep-fried dishes, and once he became rich and a worldwide superstar, he indulged in whatever his heart desired.

Elvis began eating hamburgers and drinking Pepsis in Hollywood, and whenever he went back home to Graceland, Tennessee, he would consume the same meal repeatedly. It included a meatloaf every night for dinner for six months.

The Hollywood star's cousin, Billy Smith, and his wife, Jo, revealed they all ate too many pizza meals from Krystals, adding Elvis "loved Krystal hamburgers" and "hamburger steak," including "bacon sandwiches with mustard."

With so much junk food intake, Elvis later struggled to keep the weight off once he reached middle age in the '70s and had to have bigger jumpsuits made for him for touring.

Billy recalled his cousin chose his jumpsuit for each show as they carried more than one option. He added it all depended on how much he weighed at the time as some material was "bigger," and they would "carry maybe four to five and he would pick from that."

The outfits became a safe choice for the celebrated artist as they would have them cleaned and returned for him to pick. Jo revealed it was "why he wore the sundial jumpsuit. He was more comfortable in" it because he had put on more weight.

Moreover, the circular image on the stage costume's chest and torso helped disguise Elvis' growing stomach. "And those suits were heavy, heavy, heavy. So, he had to be able to feel comfortable and move around," she explained.

Elvis was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, and sadly died in Memphis, Tennessee, on August 16, 1977. He was discovered unconscious at his home in Graceland by his then-fiancee, actress Ginger Alden.

The "Unchained Melody" singer was rushed to the hospital, where he died. An autopsy report revealed his death resulted from a "cardiac arrhythmia."
