In 2020, fans were shocked when Chris shared a picture of his mother on Instagram to wish her a happy 60th birthday. One fan questioned if she was 60, and another was shocked that she was his mother.
Another fan took to the comments section to compliment his mother's good looks and wrote that Leonie looked gorgeous, while another asked:
"Is this really your mom at 60? She looks AMAZING ❤️. Tell her I said so!"
Leonie has a fascinating family history and a unique attitude toward her fitness and health. Even though Leonie is now a grandmother, she does not look her age.
According to her daughter-in-law, Chris Hemsworth's wife, Elsa Pataky, Leonie has a secret to her good looks and is very strict with the process.
Soon, Elsa joined her mother-in-law as Leonie inspired her and told her that she had to be consistent if she wanted the process to work.

Leonie Hemsworth Comes from a Big Family
Her father, Martin van Os, had emigrated from his home country in Veghel, Holland, to Melbourne, Australia, in 1952 after his national service in the West Indies.
He had a flair for writing letters and love poems, a trait that her sister, Joanne van Os, inherited; she became an author and published her first book "Outback Heart," on September 28, 2011.
Leonie's father had met her mother, Therese O'Sullivan, on a ship in January 1954. Two nights later, he proposed to her, and they courted for months over the phone before getting married in December of the same year.

By 1966, her parents already had five children. Her sister Joanne was the eldest and was born in 1955, followed by Peter in 1957. Her older brother Robert was born in 1958, Leonie in 1960, and Pauline in 1966.
Joanne married Rod Ansell, the man who inspired the 1986 movie, "Crocodile Dundee." The movie was based on his survival in a highly remote country where he stayed for 56 days after being stranded.
Leonie grew up in a multicultural environment with immigrant children from different countries, as there was a massive wave of immigration to Australia around that time. When she grew up, she became an English teacher.

Leonie Hemsworth and Her Husband Were Having Financial Difficulties
Leonie entered a relationship with Craig Hemsworth, and they had three sons. Luke was born on November 5, 1980, Chris on August 11, 1983, and Liam on January 13, 1990. All their children were born in Melbourne.
In an interview in 2017, Chris revealed that his parents struggled with their finances when he was a child. He was frustrated when they talked about the bills they had to pay every week, and this motivated him to want to make money.
Although Leonie and her husband started their family in Melbourne, they later moved to the Northern Territory, and with time, they settled on Phillip Island.
They had initially lived on a remote cattle farm almost five hours away from the nearest town. The area had crocodiles and buffalo, and the couple ran the community center.
Years later, they moved to Phillip Island in Victoria. Their new home afforded their children the opportunity to get into surfing. On father's day in 2016, Chris Hemsworth thanked his father for taking him surfing every weekend and driving him to football and athletics training and friends' houses.
Leonie Hemsworth Has Her Own Secret to the Perfect Appearance
In 2019, Elsa revealed that the secret to Leonie's good looks and healthy physique lay in intermittent fasting. She further remarked that her mother-in-law was the first person she knew who was doing intermittent fasting.
She had started fasting for one day every week before moving on to having at least 16 hours of fasting. This inspired the actress to follow in her mother-in-law's footsteps.
Unfortunately, Leonie has the APOE4 gene, which indicates an increased risk of Alzheimer's. She passed on this gene to her son Chris, who now has two of these genes because he inherited the second from his father. Also, her father, unfortunately, has Alzheimer's.
Leonie Hemsworth Helped Chris with His Audition for "Thor"
Leonie is close to her sons. She was a mom who took her kids to the ocean before school to surf. However, Chris considers himself his mother's favorite, and because he was a chatty kid, she referred to him as the girl among her boys.
They were so close that she helped him with his audition preparation for the role of Thor. When he went for his first audition, he did not get a callback, but his younger brother Liam did.
Fortunately, after several months, he was called back to audition, and his mother helped him rehearse by taking on Anthony Hopkins' role. Their working together helped him nail the part in his second audition.

Chris has reprised his role as Thor in over ten Marvel Cinematic Universe films, with his latest being "Thor: Love and Thunder." In the 2022 movie, he starred alongside Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Christian Bale, and others.
Leonie's part in rehearsing with her son is surprising since she once had a role on the screen. She appeared in 12 episodes of the 2008 "The Hollowmen."
She starred as Dianne, the Prime Minister's Secretary, in the comedy-drama mockumentary focused on the daily lives of the staff of the Australian Prime Minister.
Leonie is also close to her other sons and is there to support them when needed. In 2013, following Liam's breakup with Miley Cyrus, he was spotted with his mother as they went shopping at a supermarket in Australia.
While there is no news of Leonie's current take on intermittent fasting, it is without a doubt that she has a close relationship with her family.
