Dwayne Michael Turner Is Not the Man Lil Wayne Has Called His Dad

Lil Wayne's biological father, Dwayne Michael Turner, abandoned him at a young age. However, the rapper called two other men his dads, including his stepfather and Cash Money Records CEO, Birdman.

Lil Wayne's biological father, Dwayne Michael Turner, had no relationship with his famous son. Although the "Lollipop" singer shares his first name with his dad, Lil Wayne chose to drop the first letter.

According to Lil Wayne, he was only a baby when Dwayne turned away from his responsibilities as a father, so there was no reason for the rapper's name to be associated with Dwayne.

Still, Lil Wayne grew up calling two other men his father. In a previous interview, Lil Wayne revealed that his first tattoo was in memory of his dad, who passed away when he was 14. He also considers a record label owner, Birdman, as his father.

Dwayne Michael Carter Is Absent from His Son's Life

Born Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. on September 27, 1982, Lil Wayne was the child of a 19-year-old mother, Jacinda, and a dad who left them shortly after. He came from humble beginnings with a mom who struggled to raise him in New Orleans' 17th Ward.

Lil Wayne lived with his grandmother until age ten and did not know his birth father. According to Lil Wayne, Dwayne didn't care about him, so naturally, he grew up not caring about his father as well. However, there's no denying that they look alike.

When asked if Lil Wayne's many tattoos are a way for him not to look like Dwayne, the rapper said it was just a way of expressing himself.

He also took other measures to disassociate himself from Dwayne, including changing his name. "I'm a junior, and my father is livin'," he said. "He's never been in my life, so I don't wanna be Dwayne."

Lil Wayne Lost His Second Dad at Age 14

The "How to Love" singer also had a father figure through his stepdad, Rabbit McDonald, who paid $700 to have Lil Wayne record at a studio. Sadly, McDonald was shot when Lil Wayne was only 14. In memory of his second dad, the artist got a tattoo of Rabbit's name on his right arm.

"Where I come from, the block become your daddy. There's a lot of people get killed in New Orleans, and a lot of us be raised without a daddy and end up in prison [sic]," he said.

Lil Wayne Repeatedly Referred to Birdman as His Dad

Another person Lil Wayne called his father was Cash Money Records' CEO, Birdman. For his part, he also referred to Lil Wayne as his son. Birdman signed Lil Wayne into his label at a young age and opened many opportunities.

During his early career, Lil Wayne referred to Birdman as "pops" in one of his tracks and called himself "Birdman Jr." in another song. There's no denying that they share a good relationship.

Lil Wayne is now a father to three children. His youngest child, Kameron Carter, celebrated his 12th birthday in 2021 with his dad and mom, Lauren London. Like the singer, London is also an entertainer who has appeared on the shows "New New" and "ATL."

She and Lil Wayne have been in an on-and-off relationship until welcoming their only son together on September 9, 2009. Lil Wayne's other children are Dwayne Carter III and Reginae Carter, who both followed in their father's footsteps as a musician.
