Although he's the son of one of the most iconic soccer players, his father never pressured him to follow in his footsteps and supported Brooklyn's decision to stop playing the game.

Even though Brooklyn decided to give up the sport, he had tons of fun while he still played. The oldest Beckham sibling commented on his days as a soccer player, saying the sport was his "life." These days, though, he's staying off the pitch and spending his time on creative pursuits instead.

Meet the Humble and Hard-Working Son of David and Victoria Beckham

Brooklyn was born on March 4, 1999, in London. The young man's parents, David and Victoria Beckham, raised their oldest son mainly in Oxfordshire. However, they were in New York City when they found out Victoria was pregnant, which inspired their firstborn's name.

Following in the footsteps of one of soccer's greatest athletes would give even the bravest person a reason to hesitate.

As a child, the couple taught Brooklyn to be humble by encouraging him to interact with peers who weren't part of famous families. He attended regular schools, and his parents kept his life incredibly private. Even though he was the son of two highly recognizable people, and his godfather was Elton John, he grew up in obscurity.

Growing up, Brooklyn was encouraged to work for everything he wanted. Instead of buying him whatever he desired, David and Victoria told their son to work and save up. So, Brooklyn started working at a café to earn his pocket money. Besides his job in a local café, Brooklyn also tried his hand at photography.

After walking away from soccer, Brooklyn decided to become a photographer. He gained experience by capturing behind-the-scenes moments at his mother's performances and spent a year studying at the Parsons School of Design. He even released a photo book at the age of 18.

When Brooklyn Went to Dad to Say He's Quitting Soccer: What Was the Reason?

Following in the footsteps of one of soccer's greatest athletes would give even the bravest person a reason to hesitate. When Brooklyn turned 16, he realized that he would be living in his father's shadow his entire life if he didn't go out and do something on his own. Although he loved soccer, he needed to find something he could call his own.

Although fans slammed Brooklyn for not following in his dad's footsteps, David always supported his son.

The oldest Beckham child opened up about his decision to give up a career in soccer, saying his dad's reputation always hung over his head. Brooklyn knew he might not be as good as his father, and living up to David's legacy would prove to be a daunting and immense challenge. So, he decided to find his own passion. He said:

"My dad wasn't sad, because he was like, 'I just want you to be happy.' But of course I was sad. It was my whole life since I was literally two. To try and live up to what my dad did in football, I was just like, 'that's going to be a bit difficult.'"

Many fans commented on Brooklyn giving up, saying he should have stuck with it. One YouTube user commented, "I don't really like the whole I quit football because of pressure." Another said he "simply wasn't good enough," and a third implied he lacked "natural talent."

Brooklyn Beckham's Current Life, Fulfilling His Dream

Although fans slammed Brooklyn for not following in his dad's footsteps, David always supported his son. Brooklyn also stopped studying after a year and rather decided to learn to cook. These days, the oldest Beckham child is an amateur chef on social media.

Brooklyn has started teaching himself to cook and often shares recipes with fans via Instagram. He makes short videos showing him whipping up his latest meal and posts them all over the internet in the hopes of becoming a professional chef.

Besides chasing his culinary dreams, David's oldest is a married man. He tied the knot with Nicola Peltz, and the young amateur chef hopes to start a reality TV show focusing on him and his wife as they try to run a pub in Los Angeles.
