Sebastian Stan was born in Romania in 1982. When Stan was two, his parents divorced, and at seven, he left Romania with his mother, Georgeta Orlovschi, a pianist. According to Stan, Geogeta encouraged him to follow his dream of becoming an actor.

When Georgeta remarried, she and her son moved to the United States. Stan was already passionate about acting and attended Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts. He spent a year in the UK, at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, before returning to New York.

With his mother's support, he started working as an actor, landing a significant role in an episode of "Law & Order" when he was 18. The actor has often spoken of Georgeta and her strength and sacrifice that brought him to the United States and made the life he has built possible.

Sebastian Stan's Mom Spent Most of Her Life in Romania

Georgeta Orlovschi was born and raised in Romania, and very little is known about her younger years, except that she grew up under the rule of the Communist Regime implemented by the then-USSR.

Foreseeing trouble, the actor didn't take Georgeta to the "Avengers: Infinity War" premiere, in which his character Bucky/Winter Soldier is turned into dust.

She was born on May 18, 1956, and the date and details of her first marriage are unknown. She gave birth to Sebastian Stan on August 13, 1982, when she was 26 years old, but by the time her son was two, she and his father were divorced.

In 1989, revolution overcame Romania, and fearing for her child, Georgeta moved with Stan to Viena, Austria, where she found work as a pianist. When Stan was 12, they moved to New York City in the United States. It was there that she met her second husband, Anthony Fruhauf.

Her son has posted tributes to Georgeta, sharing his love and admiration for everything she is and all she has done for him. He posted a series of sweet snaps from his childhood on Instagram and wrote:

"Thank you, Mom, for giving me life and for the countless sacrifices you’ve made to ensure our freedom. You fled communist Romania because you wanted me to have a better life. I am grateful for your resilience, for everything that you have taught me."

The actor has shared that he is particularly close to his mother, who is understandably protective of her only child and sometimes nervous about the dangers in the action-packed roles he's taken.

Georgeta Liked Her Son's Fake Tattoo

In 2018, Stan shared a funny story about his mother on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." He was cast in the movie "Destroyer," opposite Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman as an undercover cop so that some tattoos would be part of the character's look. Stan explained:

“I feel like this guy would have a giant picture of his mom on his bicep. So I asked my mom for a bunch of pictures, and she sent me these pictures, and then I got one on my bicep.”

Stan has no tattoos, so to give his mom a shock, the actor sent her a snap of his new fake tattoo --of her face -- on his bicep. He thought she'd be upset, but Georgeta surprised him. She liked it and thought she looked good.

Like his Romanian grandparents, the actor revealed that his mother is very superstitious. He remembered seeing his grandmother reading the future in coffee stains; his mother has her quirks, which include supposedly prophetic dreams. He explained:

“When she calls me, I immediately pick up the phone and say, ‘Please, don’t.’ Cause its always about some dream that she’s had.”

Georgeta is always worried because of the roles her son plays, which usually include a lot of action. One of his appearances in a Marvel movie was particularly upsetting for her, and she called Stan out on it.

Mom Was Upset about His Role Once

Stan has worked in seven Marvel movies, including "Black Panther" with Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong'o, and Michael B. Jordan. The actor told Georgeta he was in the film, and she immediately went to see it, then called her son very upset. He revealed:

"My mom went to see 'Black Panther,' and then she called me afterwards and said, 'I thought you were in this film?' And I said, 'I am, at the end.' And she's like, 'I didn't stay for it.'"

Foreseeing trouble, the actor didn't take Georgeta to the "Avengers: Infinity War" premiere, in which his character Bucky/Winter Soldier is turned into dust when Thanos destroys half the beings in the universe.

Fans can see Sebastian Stan in the forthcoming psychological thriller "Sharper," due to premiere in February 2023, where he costars with Julianne Moore and John Lithgow.
