Former SNL writer Nick Kocher's marriage to Karen Gillan surprised the millions of "Doctor Who" fans who had seen her in a white wedding dress during her popular stint on the series.

One opportune fan claimed to be an eyewitness of Karen Gillan's marriage to Nick Kocher while walking her dog near the Scottish castle that hosted the lavish wedding in 2022.

The actress, who plays Nebula in "Guardians of the Galaxy," had one public relationship at the beginning of her acting career. She left a trail of juicy rumors as she became more private about her boyfriends.

Karen Gillan Doesn't Have a Very Intense Dating History

With her raised profiled upon booking the role of Amy Pond opposite Matt Smith's "Doctor Who," the paparazzi made a point to track down Karen Gillan's boyfriend, Patrick Green.

The longtime couple was snapped on an outing at the Bonsai Tree Farm in Suffolk with his parents in March 2010. Green is a photographer specializing in hip-hop acts. The actress revealed her boyfriend was with her when she learned she got the part.

While promoting "We'll Take Manhattan" in January 2012, where she plays a supermodel and photographer's muse, the private actress inadvertently announced the end of the six-year relationship by answering in the past tense.

When asked if she and her photographer boyfriend have a similar dynamic to what she had to portray in the film, she

they "never really did any of that." She reckoned that it is healthy to keep some elements separate in a relationship.

Karen Gillan's dating life came into the spotlight again in March 2012, with a series of paparazzi shots of her making out with a mystery man while filming in Almeria, Spain.

To the ire of invested fans, it was not an off-screen hook-up with Smith but a guest star of the British series. Andrew Brooke, who was 'The Gunslinger' on two episodes, was identified as the man the redheaded actress was getting cozy with.

Brooke is best known for his comedic roles on TV in "PhoneShop" and "The IT Crowd," and he also played in the blockbusters "Sherlock Holmes" and "Jack The Giant Killer."

The Scottish actress and Smith proved their chemistry on the show, and she was pictured with her arm hooked around the actor's neck during what a tabloid labeled a "boozy evening" around 2012. However, an off-screen romance was not an option.

Showrunner Steven Moffatt was embarrassed when Smith cheekily disclosed that he talked to the star about not dating Gillian. Smith quipped that she found him "repulsive" romantically in any case. Moffatt clarified that he meant the intervention to be in the vein of a father-son talk, not a hard ruling.

Gillan explained that the American way of dating, where one sees more than one person at the same time, is radically different from her preferred method of dating in the UK, where two people "just drink near each other and no one knows if it's a date or not."

She admitted there was merit in the American approach: "It's probably a healthier way of finding someone because you don't put all your eggs in one basket. But I'm like, 'Are you kissing all of them?'"

The "Selfie" star quietly 'drank near' one particular American for two years before springing a Hollywood wedding in the Scottish countryside in 2022.

News of Gillan and comedian Nick Kocher's nuptials at Castle Toward in Dunoon, Argyll, broke in May 2022. The private couple were rarely photographed together at events but left a few crumbs of their vacations in Berlin and London on social media.

Kocher and his wedding party wore traditional kilts for the big day, but his courteous gesture of giving his blazer to Gillan blocked the paparazzi's view of her gown. The newlyweds and their guests were snapped having drinks on the terrace.

The comedian spent the last few hours as a bachelor partying on board a super yacht, Spirit of Fortitude. The groom arrived at the venue with 25 minutes to spare before the 3 p.m. ceremony.

The star-studded guest list reportedly boasted "Doctor Who" boss Moffatt, Julia Roberts, Robert Downing Jr., and "SNL" actor Beck Bennett. Actress Jessy Hodge did a reading at the special event.

Nick Kocher Is an 'SNL' Writer and Comedian

Kocher, born January 1986, hails from Atlanta, Georgia. He met Brian McElhaney, the other half of his sketch duo BriTANick, while they were students at New York University. The performer was accepted into the prestigious Stella Adler Studio of Acting.

The Atlanta native was in the writing room for seasons 42 and 43 of "Saturday Night Live," where he is credited for writing 27 episodes. He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for his work on "SNL" in 2017, taking home the WGA Award (TV) with his fellow "SNL" writers in 2018.

A few months before their wedding, Kocher and Gillan were co-stars in Judd Apatow's lockdown comedy for Netflix, "The Bubble." She also starred in the sci-fi comedy short film he wrote and produced, "Eureka!," which premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.

The comedian has over 30 acting credits and a handful as a producer. He hosts a monthly live comedy show, "Everything's Great!" with Addie Weyrich and Demi Adejuyigbe.
