Amanda Kloots' Son Says He Loves His Eyes Because They Look Like Late Nick Cordero's Eyes
Amanda Kloots' son Elvis Eduardo Cordero is the remaining piece of his deceased father that his mother treasures beyond measure. Soon to be four years old, Elvis will be mourning three years of his father's death this year. "Live Your Life" is a famous song from Amanda's husband's catalog and the last words she said to him.
Amanda Kloots and her late husband, Nick Cordero, became parents for the first time when they welcomed their first child Elvis Eduardo Cordero. Amanda met her son's father when they worked on "Bullets Over Broadway" in 2014. She worked on the project as an ensemblist while her husband was nominated for his performance.
They tied the knot three years later, in September 2017, after their engagement in March. Nick was so impressive in his role as Cheech in the Broadway show that he was cast in "Waitress" as Earl by Sarah Bareilles and in the musical "A Bronx Tale" as Sonny.
About a day ago, Amanda shared a tear-jerker post on Instagram about her son's "surprise art project" given to her by his school. The post showed Elvis's production—a picture of his adorable toddler dial attached to a shabbily painted blue background. Beneath his face were the kid's words, triggering an emotional response in the comments.
"My eyes are black like the stars. My hair is light brown like yummy chocolate," he wrote with impressive longhand, likely his teacher's. "I love my eyes because they are brown like my Daddy's," he concluded, footnoting his name to show who the words belong to.
Amanda's caption revealed she had told the little man that he had his father's eyes countless or a million times, at least. She also showed appreciation for the fact that Elvis took heed of that.
Young Elvis Brings His Mother Joy
Elvis was born on June 10, 2019, at 6:14 a.m. at Mount Sinai West. At birth, the "Waitress" star's son weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces. His mother, Amanda, announced his arrival on Instagram the very day he was born. She shared a photo of herself and Nick unable to get their hands off their newborn baby.
They looked like a happy family with the brightest Broadway smiles next to their sleepy son in the delivery room. Her caption read: "We are so in love with him already! 56-hour labor but mama and baby boy are doing great! I'll share my birth story after a very long nap."
PEOPLE shed light last November on an Instagram post that Amanda shared, detailing the things that bring her joy, presumably since Nick's passing. She attached a focused picture of her smiling three-year-old wearing a blue jacket with multicolored stripes. "This face. These eyes. This smile," she wrote, about the piece of her husband that lives.
In 2020, Broadway and the Cordero family lost a treasured member in the person of Nick. He died after a lengthy battle with COVID-19 after spending nearly 100 days in ICU at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA. Amanda broke the news on Instagram in a long-winded caption expressing heartbreak and continued love for the actor.
Amanda said she sang the last verse of Nick's song "Live Your Life" to him in his final moments. "They'll give you hell, but don't you let them kill your light, not without a fight. Live your life," she sang. Nick lived his life and put up the toughest fight to do so at the very end of it.
Broadway also mourns the loss of composer Burt Bacharach who died at 94. He lived a whole life and married four times, with his most recent wife, Jane Hansen, being his longest-lasting partner. "Christmas Story" star Melinda Dillon also died recently, on February 22, aged 83.
